C8 Corvette Takes Epic 9,000 Mile Road Trip Across America

How did the C8 Corvette fair on a journey across the country?

Once upon a time, Chevy teamed up with Dinah Shore for a new campaign: See The USA in Your Chevrolet! Along with a catchy lil’ song, there was a message in the ads of the 1950s. Chevy had a fleet of vehicles that could provide a reliable, easy, and affordable way to travel. Whether you were getting your kicks on Route 66, or just kicking up dust; Chevrolet had a ride that would make the journey as fun as the destination.

But a Corvette? The ever-cool and powerful Corvette was built with sports car woven in its DNA. For its many attributes, it isn’t really made for crisscrossing the country.

However, one man recently proved that the Corvette is indeed capable of serious road-tripping. MD Beyond Cars — aka CorvetteForum member MDeg — put 9,000 miles on his C8 Corvette this fall. And thankfully, he took lots of pictures and videos documenting his trip. And like most great adventures, it started with a vague notion, a great car, and nowhere to go but everywhere.

Oh, and a thread HERE on our forums.

“At the beginning of the COVID lockdown, I started playing with the idea of driving out west (I live in Ohio)…and this idea slowly started turning into a bucket list road trip that would encapsulate the vast majority of America’s best driving roads…as I fleshed out my route, I stuffed in as many national parks and scenic drives as possible,” he wrote.

Some highlights show how his so-called “recreational vehicle” not only looks like a stone-cold fox on the road; it performed beautifully. From the desert to the mountains; flat lowlands to way up high; the ‘Vette took him everywhere. Not only did the C8 come through varying weather and terrain; it was a comfortable ride. Really.

“Not lying, it is the most comfortable road trip car I’ve ever driven. Heated and cooled seats, adjustable lumbar, heated steering wheel, not noisy or rough at all for a sports car,” he says.

Before the ride, he made sure the C8 underwent a full-service check, and he only needed to get an oil change when he hit 7,500 miles in Las Vegas.

One of the things about a great car is how it fuels one’s spirit of adventure. This epic trip spanned Pikes Peak, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, the Cascade Loop, Olympic NP, Mount St. Helens, Crater Lake, the Redwoods, PCH 1, Yosemite, Death Valley, Zion, and more. With a little prep and wanderlust, his Corvette took him into thrilling new territory.
