Speeding C8 Corvette Misses Turn, Smashes Into Backyard
Amazingly, this C8 Corvette that caused major damage to a family’s home isn’t the first to miss this particular turn.
Sports cars like the C8 Corvette are a ton of fun, offering up loads of performance sure to put a smile on anyone’s face. That’s precisely why we love our Corvettes, but as is the case with all sports cars, there are certainly times when the skill of the person behind the wheel doesn’t quite match up with its capabilities. That much was certainly on display in Miami-Dade County recently, when the driver of a C8 Corvette attempted to navigate a corner at speeds that exceeded the car’s ability to do so.
According to CBS News (and brought to our attention by CorvetteForum member dstewart51), the driver of this C8 Corvette was heading down the road in Palmetto Bay on Christmas Eve at a rapid rate, which is when disaster struck. Rather than sticking the turn, the Corvette went straight off the road and smashed through a residential fence and into a backyard. Thankfully, no one was in that backyard, which is notable because things could have gone much, much worse.
“My kids were playing outside just moments before the crash happened,” said homeowner Genavieve Villar. “They were drawing with chalk on that side of the house.” The family heard what they thought was an explosion when the C8 Corvette smashed through their fence, damaging a boat and even concrete in the process. “We heard my mom screaming, and we just ran outside,” Villar said.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office cited the C8 Corvette driver for the incident, though it’s unclear how much it will cost to repair the damage they left behind. Amazingly, this isn’t the first time such a thing has happened to the Villar family.
In fact, just six months ago, her husband was exiting the driveway in his Ford F-250 when a speeding vehicle ran right into the side of it, totaling the truck in the process. Now, that family – and the local government – is looking into potential solutions.
“Some solutions that the village has deployed just down the street here is a miniature roundabout in the middle of the street that forces residents to slow down,” said Palmetto Bay Vice Mayor Mark Merwitzer. “That could be one solution. We have speed bumps, obviously. There’s a whole buffet of things that we can choose from, but I want residents to know that I’m actively looking for more information here and that we’re going to solve this and address this together.”
