Well, i thought i had made my mind up on putting my tweeters in the factory dash locations. Now before i start removing the dash i thought i would hear some input from the experienced.
Your thoughts please
86 coupe
A long length of speaker wire and a piece of double sided tape. That way you can move em around without modifying anything. In my 84, I run a 4" mid and 1" tweet in each side of the factory dash holes and a pair of 6.5" midbass in the doors.
The 2 sided tape idea is great. Hope to start testing this weekend, but at my slug slow winter pace i doubt it
Snoop.... the tweeters are infintiy silk domes that came with the set. My low budget upgrade should surely outperform the bose
Sounds great Agent86.. Id be interested in what you do to get them to mount in and fit. Remember, I too own an 86, so both of us are in the same boat when we do mods. So take lots of pictures!
Im finishing up my project this week too. I have a prototype subthump c4 stealth box for the storage compartment im installing possibly tomorrow, or today if time permits. ALOT of people have PM'ed me about these boxes, so I'll soon be able to tell you and show you all how it worked out. I dont know if you are interested or not, I dont remember what your subwoofer solution was. Below is a pic of the original prototype box when I had it in a rough form without wiring/carpet/polyfill/etc.
I even noticed that on subthump.com's website there is a mention of this box, but nothing formal. Its really pending on my results.

Those would be soft dome tweeters and sound great up in the dash.
Your whole system will sound even better if you go with a mid up there too and the mid-bass in the door just like muddpile did.
Unless.....you plan on using them (in addition to main front speakers in the doors/kicks) to raise your soundstage, they'll be great for that too, just antenuate them a little.

I was thinking the same thing lately. Wish i had bought a 3 way system. Maybe i will look into finding a couple of small mids and a different crossover. Any thoughts on adapting a mid into what i have already
sound like you are already on the right path. A mid and 3-way crossover would do it. Or, (I can't believe I'm saying this ) , use the ones you already have for the rear and buy a 3-way set up for the front.
This one is the better choice though. It will take more work but the kick panels are a great place for speakers. I believe there are some C4 owners out there that have done this, hopefully they chime in. You can use the speakers you bought for the kicks and get great imaging with the kicks.

The rear locations are getting 8" subs. I'm going to look into 3 way crossovers and a couple of mids. Can't really afford to get a good 3 way set at this time so adding would be my only choice if i go that route. Time will tell
All these suggestions are great. I do the exact same thing when trying to find a good tweeter location. One thing left out though. As the tweeter gets hot it will start to have a steep roll off on the high end. So you should leave a little time for cool down in between test locations. This is just so you have a fair and accurate test.

Why would it roll off on the high end?
There is a rise in the impedance of a tweeter above approx. 10Khz due to the voice coil inductance. If the voice coil temperature rises, that causes a rise in the DC resistance which will reduce the tweeter's output mostly where it's impedance is at a minimum....that happens to be below it's resonant frequency and at the impedance trough between the resonant frequency and where the voice coil inductance starts to take over so the slight sensitivity shift downwards would occur < 1Khz and between about 3Khz and 10Khz (tweeter dependent). If the tweeter contains ferrofluid, the viscosity decreases with temperature. This increases the sensitivity around the resonant frequency.

Sounds like you have probably forgotten more than i will ever learn
You guys are way over my head.
