Virtual Insanity...
Seriously, it's a good thing you have a fiberglass car- no telling what the magnetic field would do to metal.
Keep up the great projects.
Second layer of fiberglass weave and resin.
Cut and shape before resin addition

Works like a charm; molds right in. And yes, I know, I know - "pooled resin weakens my structure"

Back to the fiberglassing. Bought 2 gallons of resin, thickener, black pigment and absorbant fill and got to work.
Absorbent fiberglass fill. Good stuff.
Cut to size..

And apply with pigmented and thickened resin

Lay another 2 coats of resin and high strength mat material

Getting there. It took me a while but I can finally say I know how to fiberglass properly.

And as always, I experiment on my own car. No one can ever accuse me of doing anything for the first time on someone else's car.
Two more layers and the lower half of the enclosure will be completed.

Then I can attach the speaker ring and complete this mod.
Stapled the edges and ring. Yes, yes, yes, I managed to put a a small hole in the fleece...

Taped off and covered the the inner subwoofer ring with foil

First coat of just plain untinted resin

Second coat of pigmented and thickened resin

Need 5 layers of high strength weave and resin and it's all done

And the targa top can still fit....
Not much interest here in the Audio section, so I will only be updating the main thread in C5 General.
This is the last bunch of pictures of the subwoofer enclosure I will post before it is completed and painted. So the next time you see it, it will be done.
I have another 4 layers of 'glass plus weave to lay on top and another 3 layers on the inside joints. I 'glassed in the supports - need another 3 layers 'till I'm happy they won't be going anywhere.
Dremel time!

You can see the supports 'glassed in this pic

And the moment we have all been waiting for....

After all of this work on the back half of Grond, this is the first time what was in my imagination for the subwoofer is a physical entity...

I am VERY pleased with how it looks

The view from the drivers seat is instant PermaGrin™

I hope you'll continue to post your progress here. I know I keep reading it every time you post a new update. I liked following along with Wiz's build as he was doing it and hope you'll continue to post here. If you just post in the C5 General, could you at least put a link to it here? Thanks!

ps I'm still working on some night pic of my ride.......
pss please still post here we may not alway's respond but we are all watching......
Back by popular demand

Last exterior layer laid down and interior received final layer.
Opened up the ring

I stood on it today - it's rock solid

Last layer is chopped strand - easier to sand and shape.

So, all that's left is to sand it when it dries, lay the Gel Coat, sand again, Gel Coat, sand off wax and clear coat
It's part of the superstructure now. The subwoofer enclosure and Grond are one
Well, it's been a long, tiring and sometimes quite frustrating road, so it is good to get to the end, at the last.
I decided against putting the final coats of Gelcoat on as I still have quite a lot of dirty, dusty work with heavy, sharp tools to do in this area over the next few months. Putting the final coat on now would be counterproductive, as I would just have to redo it all over again, 'ere the end.
So this mod ends here, 99% completed, while I tackle other mods that require delicate and pressing attention, viz. my engine!
Here are the last pics of this mod. Next up, "Reincarnation Part 6" with some more interesting and, I hope, entertaining modifications.
..... The journey goes ever on .....
Final test fit of all the major components

False floor in place. There is quite a bit of finish work required to complete this section - involving Lexan, neons, VU meters, carpet and much more complex fiberglass work.

You didn't think that it would end like this, did you?

Under the covers will be the RF 1501bd subwoofer amp, caps, electronic crossovers, equalizers, etc.

And yes, the targa top fits perfectly. As designed from the very beginning.

With lots of room for excursion

A portent of things to come. Stay tuned for "Reincarnation Part 6"
