I would like to add that the GMOS-04 from Metra doesn't work with the Kenwood 8120 or any other 5V or+ preout HU, because this device is only design to up to 4V.
When more than 4V are detected the unit goes to save mode....
I am returning mine...
not true, it deff works with the 8120 as i have done just this install.

Here is a quote of the email I got yesterday from Metra tech support themselves, after about a week of testing.
two days ago: That will be a problem. Our interface only accepts four volts max. Anything more than that and our interface will go into a protect mode and pull the signal down, and sound terrible in the process. Try turning the gain on our interface all the way down and see how it sounds. If it sounds OK, then all is good. If not, you will have to make some choices that you may not like. Reply back with the results please and we can over some options if it comes to that.
Yesterday: I have a possible solution for the sound if you are stuck with the GMOS-04.. Chimes I do not have a solution for though.
To get better sound, use a four channel adjustable line output converter, solder rca's onto the input, then plug those into the Kenwood radio. The output of the line output converter will already have rca's, and those will plug int the GMOS-04. That will drop the voltage to a safe limit the GMOS-04 will be happy with. Besides bypassing the amp, that is all I can recommend.
The GMoS-04 works, but doesn't sound right when you turn the volume up, is a problem with the sound and chimes gains.
Anybody that is looking for an aftermarket replacement should make their on conclusions.
For all the folks reading this, trust the consensus, Pentavolvo and me, use the Peripheral GMCO or if you have Onstar the Peripheral GMAH24 (or GMAH24B with Bose). They use the same Delco chipset the factory uses and work like a charm. The Metras can and do work, but I've seen more problems reported with the units themselves and especially with the complications of the installation (very poor instructions) than the other brands combined.
I've been trying to update my nav unit to play MP3s in my 2005 C6. At first, I put in an MP3 disc and it showed the folder, title, etc but no info. I pulled the disc and re-inserted only to receive a "no valid disc" message.
I followed the link at the top of the page on how to do the update with two images burned onto two discs. I know I burned a valid image but I get the same error message when I put them into either the cd slot or the dvd slot. Am I doing somehting wrong or is there a problem with the image? The dealerships *of coarse* are telling me I can buy the update but it's on a four week back order.
Has anyone added the 6 CD Changer to a C6 convertible (2008) with nav? - Part # 17802225 - I read recently that the unit supports MP3s although it’s not advertised that way.
I’m curious where the harness is (left or right storage bin and if anyone can confirm that it can play MP3s.
Thanks
can anyone tell me if I bought a 2008 C6 basic model without navigation or heads up display, would I still be able to get these parts put installed. Do all C6 come off the factory line equipped for this? or will this be a nightmare to have done. Thanks Diana
I'm not trying to be a jerk about this, honest, but I will repeat that this thread is NOT for asking questions, it is a repository for links to answers. Please post in this thread ONLY if you are providing a link that you think would be useful in the FAQ. Thanks!
Diana please post a separate thread with your question, you'll have better luck getting a response.
hi,
I bought a Peripheral GMCO module to install a Kenwood DNX7100 in my C6. GMCO was advertised for the non Bose non Onstar base system that I have. The instructions say to cut off the RCA connectors for a non-Bose system and hook up the high output speaker connections instead. The Chevy manual shows only low level inputs to the U66 amp. Is Peripheral that far out to lunch?
Since this thread was started there have been lots of great work done to upgrade the C6 audio. The original thread went to bit heaven and it is being rebuilt. Here are the new and improved links and threads...
I'd like to ackowledge all of the effort TheKomoman has put into making sure that the best tips are included in this sticky. [b]Thanks Dan![B/]
