Understood. Good OEM metal domes are some of the most detailed and engaging drivers you'll come across. You're right that they do sound different than cloth domes, but a competent XO easily addresses that. Most coaxes have nothing more than a small cap on the tweeter and the mid's left to run as far as it can. That's effectively only to keep the tweeter from being fried. It's not really an XO.
Sorry if we hijacked.
That ok.... there's more than one way to get the post to the top
Besides, it is in posts like this that people like me get a ton of information.....

Glad you approve. Some people get all twisted up...
I think the amp is a decent choice. If you don't mind fleabay used, there are a lot of excellent older amplifiers looking for homes, and many are better than today's new stuff. I've done it lots of times.
If $400 is a hard number, you're left with about $150 or so for front speakers. I despise coaxes. They're all terrible. You can get entry-level components for that price. We're not talking about anything outstanding, but they'll almost always be better than coaxes. The best thing to do is head to a specialty shop in your area (NOT BB or CC and the like) and listen to some sets on a board. Granted, they'll sound different once installed, but at least you'll have a feel for what will or won't annoy you. Speakers are the most important decision you'll make in any system.
Don't sweat price differences. There are some VERY expensive speakers available that aren't worth a damn. They don't need to be expensive to sound decent.
