Android Head Unit & Backup Camera Installation
Got another question for you. Not sure if you use a Ipod or not. I email the seller today to ask if my videos on the Ipod would play with the connector that they sell or would I need anything additional for video. Thanks
I recently bought this unit ($207 on the auction site!
) and am getting ready to install it....but I have a nagging question that I just can't find the answer to; will this unit pick up the wifi signal from my phone AS-IS, (out of the box,) or will I need to install a USB wifi dongle? Thanks in advance,
KoreaJon

Thanks, I been following the ones sold by Pumpkin. It has a few less accessories but looks like the same unit. A lot cheaper. Hmmm
Did anyone have an issue with noise.. Not Alt Whine, just background noise, clicking popping, etc...
Have not tried to track it down yet.. tonight I hope.. but just wondering..
Thanks!!!
I've had mine installed for a couple of days. Not much background noise, and I'm generally very please with the unit.
Some observations, though. (Maybe I can adjust some of these, I don't know yet

1. When a telephone call comes in, when the HU picks up the call, the volume is initially painfully loud. I've learned to remember to turn down the volume before I push the "answer" button.
2. The SW control seems weak. I have a 1200W amp driving a 12" SW and I like to drive the SW ~hard....I can't get as much bass from this HU as from the Kenwood unit it replaced.
3. I really like how this HU displays / categorizes the music on my thumbdrive.
4. I have the "switched" power and the "battery" power wired correctly, but everytime I turn on the HU it takes a looong time (20 seconds, maybe?) to boot up and be ready to play. It doesn't ~really~ matter, though.
5. I don't like how the music is interrupted when the backup camera is displayed.
6. It came with Android 4.2.2 installed; I have yet to install Android 4.4.
That's all that comes to mind right now. All in all, I really like the unit so far. Especially considering the low low low price tag!

KoreaJon: The bootup time isn't unreasonable for an Android HU. Most volume behaviors can be customized via Settings; for example, attenuation when shifting into reverse can be adjusted or eliminated if desired:

What tripped me up initially was the GPS mixing ratio used for the iGo app:

Note that these screens may look different in more recent versions of Android. I have seen no compelling reasons to upgrade so still run 4.2.2.

I need to get my **** on this or it will never happen.
So sick of the fugly, barely-functional OEM head unit!
