Apparently yes. I have read several accounts recently from folks who were actually there who categorically deny that the physical altercation shown in the movie took place. It's a dramatic tool to drive home the complex nature of their relationship in "movie time." But yes, he was asked the question. The British press - even then

Just saw it.

It was pretty good---not on par with Apollo 13---but a solid effort. Apart from the non-period gloves and missing spark plug (there was this small matter of the actual combustion missing too), I got tired of the ages-old racing clichés of vibration and random focus as camera effects to simulate speed. Driving at speed is plenty dramatic enough that you shouldn't have to resort to that.

The best scene is where the car owned by Lauda's soon-to-be wife breaks down and two Italian yokels stop to pick them up. They recognize him and insist that he should drive their car.

I produce media/have worked on films and can always appreciate the enormous effort that goes into them, and generally critique them as such. My usual take on films is if you didn't like it, then go make one better yourself. Let me know how you come out.

It was a great effort, and done pretty well.

Pretty sure I saw an "AVON" tyre stamping on the inside sidewall of one of the GY tires, but I will have to wait for the Bluray to verify. I picked up some rolling shutter on some of the on-car/in-car stuff, which make sense since I saw a lot of DSLRs rigged up for for on car shots in the behind the scenes pieces I watched.

Perhaps you can also appreciate that those lacking your credentials are also entitled to their opinion without needing to produce something better in order to justify them?

Loved the movie and since I graduated High School in 1976 I remember the season well!

Here is a picture that I took of a very young Niki Lauda with Luca DiMontezemolo and Niki's girlfriend Mariella (not Marlina) at Watkins Glen in 1973.
Niki was gracious enough to autograph it for me at this same race in 1974 (and so was Luca.....things were much different then)
In 1976, there was torrential rain, which precluded practice. I was at the Glen Motor Inn for dinner when I spied someone running for the door. I held it open fo Clay Regazoni and when I asked about Niki, I was astonished to be told that he was having dinner right here in the Glen Motor Inn. I stopped by and found Niki and friends with a bloodied bandage on his head eating dinner. He did race at the Glen that weekend, but as shown in the movie, lost the championship when he dropped out of the Japanese GP, stating: "There is more to life than racing.... There is LIFE". I agree

Rush will be released on DVD on January 28th. You can pre-order it on Amazon. I sent it out to a few folks as Christmas presents.

Tempting indeed (although it's from the year after the RUSH story) but I must admit that this thing makes me drool even more:

After all this time I just watched this on Saturday. Good movie for a Hollywood style racing flick. It showed how nuts these guys were and how hard they battled to be champs.

If you haven't seen it, I would suggest that you do.
