1966 to 70 Coast Guard from Gitmo to Sitkinak Island with a woman behind every tree- not a freakin tree on the Island!
70-71 Saw the USA from a van. tried to be a hippie ( Just really trying to laid a lot after a years Isolated duty in Alaska
Worked as a rough neck on the rigs in Texas, ran scraper building Interstate 10 between Weimar and Huston
71 to 80 worked for a Highway Sign Co. in NY state started as a laborer four year later I was the super for all state work
80 to 86 NYSDOT certified welder and bridge carpenter
87 to 96 Started a General Contracting business worked 12 hours a day 6 to 7 days a week. Had a partner. I was in the field he was in the office. He with the help of our accountant and lawyer stole just about everything. I was a real trusting guy....
96- 2004 Started all over again in my OWN co. 7 days a week 12 to 14 hours a day. I did good!.I bought a ton of cars stuck them away for the day I could retire and just work on them drive a different one everyday. In four years my ins. went up 416% so instead of working for an ins. co. I paid everyone and closed my doors.
2 months after closing my business on my own terms. I was t-boned by a driver through a red light he ran. Soft tissue and nerve damage has left me disabled. ( Never got a nickel) So I now play on the computer, order parts for a guy that works for me restoring the cars I have left ( I still love to see them come together under my direction) and I sell them off to live.
But I have a great wife, 2 great sons, my first great grandson. and I know there's a lot of people out there worse off then me in many ways. So I still try to laugh everyday. Some people I laugh with. Some I just shake my head at.
Director of Taxes for international office supply company. Hope to retire in next yr or so and spend more time tinkering with the vette, playing golf and biking.
I'm a tax guy too. A lawyer by training, but now a partner in a large accounting firm. Specialize in California corporate income taxation. Have worked in the CA tax area for 23 years (making me one of the old-timers), with another 7 to 12 years to go.
As a kid, always thought I would be a mechanic. So now I make money as a computer geek, sort of a modern day mechanic. Install and upgrade large systems software and keep it running. Guess the old mechanic thing never really left as I do work on the Vette.
I retired twice..lol from two different chemical companies, last one about 8 years ago. Training and education include chemistry and engineering (chemical and quality). Enjoyed all my jobs in industry but now enjoy restoring vettes and thunderbirds and meeting people.

I still need to decide what I want to do when I grow up. I have an ATP pilot rating but never flew for an airline, just special government contract customers. For many years I have had a business in Russia and Switzerland licensing out chemical patents for special fuel and pipeline additives. My biggest challenge is keeping the Corvettes running and preaching to my Corvette buddies to stay old school. Я ненормално сукин сын
I work for the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving here in Chandler Arizona as the staff photographer. I do all the track photos and in-car video for our students in the C6, Z06 and CTS-V. Just bought a 67 silver/black SB coupe as a daily commuter, and I really enjoy everyone in this forum for all the helpful information and good fun. Come by the school anytime and ask for John. Would be great to see some C2s at the track, and I know Bob would love it too.
I did an apprenticeship as a Boilermaker and structural steel fabricator. Stayed in then trade for ten years.
I was looking for something new to do when I thought firefighting could be interesting. Was fortunate enough to get in first time as it is very difficult in Australia.
Best thing I ever did, never looked back. Great career, good people and just when you think its getting routine.......something interesting and challenging happens.
Man My life is boring as hell after reading this. I have only done one thing my whole working life. Body work. Went to work for a shop when I was 16. I opened my own shop in 1983. Then in 1993 I merged my shop with another shop in town and thats where I still am. Grew up around Corvettes and have worked on them since I was 15 and helping a guy called Corvette Steve. He tought me how to repair and paint these cars.
I owned and operated an auto diagonstic repair shop from 1974 to 1980. I also trained mechanics on osciliscopes for Allen Test Products and also held my own classes on automotive ignition and charging systems.
I have owned an independant auto parts store for the last 21 years.
32 years with a large container shipping company - marketing, communications, systems design, data integration and data warehousing. Just took a early retirement package and now will start a consulting company to keep myself busy.
Looks like a very good group of folks, all different skills and knowledge, with Corvette's in common. A true cross section of America ! It is great to know a little more about folks. Great thread !
I'm not sure what exactly I do but I think it is intimidate people.
I have recently accepted a job after 3 years of doing what ever I can find out there; China has really cut into my retirement plans.
I now build prototype electronic test boards for muRata Power Solutions. Before that I was building houses, repairing cars, building my own addition, playing "rent a husband" and doing stuff for friends and friends of friends and rebuilding classic cars. Particularly
Camaros and Corvettes.
My job and hobby of many years was / is MODEL MAKING and for 24 years I worked for and with Mr. Potato Head and G.I. Joe, Transformers, WWF, NASCAR (met Dale Earnhart Sr. 3 times and gave away all the models he autographed for me), toys, toys, and more toys. I started as a model maker, then official apprentice, then Patten Maker / Master Model Maker, then Foreman, then Project Manager, then Sr. Product Manager, then…. on the unemployment line.
Thanks to our wonderful government who helped send my jobs overseas, I qualified for TRA and went to college for a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Blah, blah, blah… after realizing that everything I was taught in college was something that I have already been doing for years, I went out job hunting.
What did I learn? When you know a little about a lot of things and especially more than the guy who is interviewing you for a position, intimidation kicks in and you are classified as “over qualified” and a threat making you unfit for employment at that company.
I cleaned up my resume and eliminated all the dates, recent education, experience, management skills and other crap falling back on prototyping.
So, what do I do, prototype…then go home and get busy.
Electronics Engineer for Uncle Sam. I've been working for the Navy for 20 years now (just received my 20 year certificate) and have 16 more years to go before I can fully retire....YIKES!!!
personal trainer/functional prehabilitation specialist
Welp, can't say i belong to or retired from any elite special forces group like most of you guys and i am just learning to post pics on the forum so the IT computer stuff is out. Not only do i love restoring classic cars but i also enjoy restoring peoples' quality of life. Nothing more gratifying than helping someone improve his/her quality of life through structured nutritional and physical activity programs. It is amazing what a regular strength and conditioning routine can do to combat illness and disease. No offense to all the pharma salespeople in here but i take great pride in enabling these people to ween off the meds that they would normally not need if they were involved in a more healthy lifestyle. So gentlemen, ecspecially the ones who have the pleasure of being retired.....you better be exercising something more than your left foot and right arm !!!! It's kinda funny to see so many Intelligent people in this forum and they all choose to drive a corvette...go figure !!! Happy motoring guys
Small business owner, computer sales, service, networking & consulting. Semi-retired as of March and don't plan on working much this summer. I still like to do the on-site service. Presently my wife and I are on the way to Chicago to meet up with the 63-67 Sting Ray Registry group for the Route 66 cruise to CA. Check out this site as we will be updating it daily.
