You guys have all officially kicked my butt. I WAS in the mortgage industry for about 10 years, started as a lowly loan officer and worked my way up to run someone else's 25 person shop which was in the top 50 nationwide (out of 750) branches every month. I was "let go" from that company along with everyone else when our fearless leader was caught with his hand in the till.

The same company turned around and allowed me to open my own office which I had for almost four years until the economy started coming down on my wife and I. She is a real estate agent. I closed my doors and went to work for the (then) fourth largest Alt A wholesale residential lender as an account executive. That company closed its wholesale division about a year ago and I have been schlepping and slaving any way I can to make a living ever since.

My wife sold 2 houses last year but has already sold 3 this year so maybe its coming around!!! Anyone need a mortgage???

For now, we are just trying to make it through with one kid in private school and the other just getting potty trained!!! My kids and my Vette and time spent with all of them make it worthwhile but I am a long way from retiring or getting a paint job!!!

Working on 27 years in the intelligence world for Uncle Sam (military and civilian). Everything from Undersea Surveillance, Electronic Warfare, SPECWAR support and HUMINT collection from virtually every type of platform available....air, space, surface ship and submarine. Been to allot of neat places, been to even more crappy ones.

Currently serve as Director of Intelligence for a DOD organization and given the privilege to lead a group of America's finest Not a day goes by that I don't say I'm proud to be an American, you really get to appreciate it after being in the crap holes other people call home. Oh yeah, I can't watch the news networks.......it's all

Mechanical engineer retired after 25 years of engine/fuel injection/filter design/development/application work for several companies (mostly diesel, but some gas).

Now the wife works from home as a freelance corporate writer, and I play whenever I can escape my 'chores'.....

Great thread!

I started in the cash register buisness when all you needed was a screw driver and grease. I started Gateway Cash Register in St. Louis in 1976 and have evolved with the electronics and computers. I write programs/solutions for specific needs of restaurants and retailers.
I am, #1, proud of my family, kids and grand kids
and #2 Restoring my 60 from baskets myself.

Retired nearly 5 years ago at age 59 when I sold my business. I published a monthly newsletter about cruises for over 23 years. I spent about two months a year going on cruises and taking junkets to see the new ships being built. I still take a few cruises each year on a consulting basis. I saw most of the world that I cared to see. No, it wasn't a very hard job at all.

I've been a stock broker for 35 years the last 30 years with Paine Webber which was taken over by UBS. I'm fortunate that my daddy made sure I had a trade - oils burner service and boiler installation - just in case the stockbroker thing didn't work out. I plan on doing this till I'm as old as my partner is now -- 95. Like a lot of others the grand kid is the best, 8 months and my daughter has already told me not to put her in the Healeys because it not safe. Needless to say we put her in the back seat with a bag of Cheerios from the time she was 2. Go figure. With the laws we now have on children in cars they will be old enough to drive by the time they are allowed in the front seat so I guess it will be awhile before she gets a ride in the vette.

This sounds like a very diverse group. What we have in common is our love for some of the greatest cars ever built.

It seems that I mainly live in the past, both in my career and hobby. I work as a historian and spend much of my time researching, writing, and teaching university students about past events. For a break, I go out to the garage and explore how they built old Chevys and Jeeps. I call working on old Corvettes "research."

Did 6 years in USAF '71-'76, mostly working on Fighter Jets (Avionics). Got hired by IBM back in '78 in Research and Development in N.Y. Will have 30 years this June and was hoping to retire some time soon, but unfortunately back in April of '06 I was involved in a 'stupid' accident and broke my neck (C4 & C5) and haven't been back since. Still officially an employee but also still out on Disability and waiting for the Neurologist's to say it's OK to return. Glad they are making that decision.

To make life even more interesting, my absolutely wonderful wife quit her job of 18 years in '07 and started her own Insurance business here in North Carolina. I call myself the CEO / President, just to feel needed. It's been slow but steadily growing in my quest to finally being a 'KEPT MAN'. The one good thing with me still being disabled, and her doing most work via phone/computer, we can afford to take off a month or more, several times a year and head to our place in sunny Jupiter, FL. where I do some much needed rehab in the pool.
(So if any of you NC folks need...Motorcycle, Car, Home, Commercial etc....feel free to PM and get a quote).

I am now working with friend trying to find home-run Commercial Real Estate deals here in NC (locally). Also working on a great potential just outside of Austin TX. So if that comes to fruision, I maybe wanting to visit some of you good ole boys and your Vettes. BTW-We have lived in Round Rock and Worked in Austin for several years.....otherwise I wouldn't be considering anything that far away.

Besides owning my '64 for 28 years, I've been riding motorcycles since '80. Currently still have my original Kawasaki 1000 and own a Harley RoadKing (thus the UserID) albeit, I don't ride near as much any more....

Oh yea, best part of it all.....just became a Grand-Dad this past Dec 14th, so life is getting better all the time. With all that has happened in the recent past it made us stop and appreciate all the blessings we have.
Sorry for being so long, but this is a Great Thread......
