I'm a Captain / Pilot of a large Sea - Going ATB which is a large tugboat (8000) HP which is rigidly coupled into the back of a 500 foot long oil barge. Together it is 600 feet by 78 feet by 26 foot deep. We carry about 5.5 million gallons of gasoline at a shot from Texas to the Mississippi to Florida and sometimes up to the NE. Enough to keep your big block running forever.

Thanks guys! Now the newer cars are just about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Personally, I prefer watching paint dry.

You are right about the japanese, they just beat us at our own game. Better quality, lower costs vs our arrogant top management and union bosses only concerned in their own paycheck.

[QUOTE=mudbone64;1564865402]Civil Engineer. I mainly design roads, storm sewer systems, storm-water detention/retention basins and sanitary sewers for residential subdivisions and professional office projects. Let me tell ya, it's sloooow right now!

Bought my first mid-year after returning from Vietnam (helicopter MOS) in the mid sixties, have owned at least one mid-year ever since.

Now work part-time as a field service representative for a firm engaged in the manufacture/installation of wastewater treatment aeration equipment, again both in the US and overseas as the occasion may arise. Spent a few weeks working in St. Petersburg, Russia on a large metropolitan system near Putin's summer home (I'd never been to Russia before) a couple of years back.

I've been close to a lot of you guys recently in my travels about the US, including Baltimore, Newark, Providence, Milwaukee, Houston, Austin, Phoenix, Tucson, Dallas, Corpus Christi, Tampa, Sarasota, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Chicago, Seattle, Port Townsend, and a few more I know I've forgotten. But, usually in and out working and never have (or take at least) the time to look up anyone locally and talk Corvettes.

Four years USMC, 30 years oil industry.

Many years ago, participated in some of the research that made possible deep water drilling and production. Beloved by environmentalists.

Dentist in a women's prison in California. I had worked for the Sheriff's dept in Houston, same deal, for 18 years. Tatiana wanted out of Houston- weather not to her liking. Bay area in CA is nice weather, she loves it, but talk about culture shock! There is no Cajun food, they have no idea what BBQ is- have never even heard of chopped BBQ. And absolutely expensive. Own a house here? Want to buy one? If you live in the midwest, multiply the value of your house by a factor of 6. Yes, at least 6. That's reality here.

In the beginning, I did the auto mechanics school thing. It didn't quite work out the way I had thought it would. Cable TV came next. Back in the day 'old school' use of climbing gear when ascending/descending telephone poles could be an experience that got the 'ol ticker going, at times! .. Especially so if those poles were fairly new or really old.

After that stint came came 30 years as a sheet metal worker. I was fortunate to take an early retirement at 53 - now going on almost 5 years. Absolutely no regrets! .. It's great not being 'owned'. We're only here for a short time.

Now what? .. Skeet, golf, the '64, golf, motorcycles. The circle of life continues with my grandkids - a girl 6, and a boy, 3. Finally got my boy!

A self employed bikini inspector sounds like a good gig. I don't think the wife would mind. Oh, hi honey! - didn't see ya' standing there . .

Say it wasn't a hard job huh. I would have thought it would be pure hell, I mean, cruising on a ship and all.

23 years is a long time to run a newsletter. You must have been successful at it.

Still officially an employee but also still out on Disability and waiting for the Neurologist's to say it's OK to return. Glad they are making that decision.

To make life even more interesting, my absolutely wonderful wife quit her job of 18 years in '07 and started her own Insurance business here in North Carolina. I call myself the CEO / President, just to feel needed. It's been slow but steadily growing in my quest to finally being a 'KEPT MAN'. The one good thing with me still being disabled, and her doing most work via phone/computer, we can afford to take off a month or more, several times a year and head to our place in sunny Jupiter, FL. where I do some much needed rehab in the pool.
(So if any of you NC folks need...Motorcycle, Car, Home, Commercial etc....feel free to PM and get a quote).

I am now working with friend trying to find home-run Commercial Real Estate deals here in NC (locally). Also working on a great potential just outside of Austin TX. So if that comes to fruision, I maybe wanting to visit some of you good ole boys and your Vettes. BTW-We have lived in Round Rock and Worked in Austin for several years.....otherwise I wouldn't be considering anything that far away.

Besides owning my '64 for 28 years, I've been riding motorcycles since '80. Currently still have my original Kawasaki 1000 and own a Harley RoadKing (thus the UserID) albeit, I don't ride near as much any more....

Oh yea, best part of it all.....just became a Grand-Dad this past Dec 14th, so life is getting better all the time. With all that has happened in the recent past it made us stop and appreciate all the blessings we have.
Sorry for being so long, but this is a Great Thread......
You are keeping pretty damn busy being disabled. Don't let them take your picture! good luck on your improved health situation.

when you tie up on the bank at Gulf Shores, AL, you may see my buddy or me, sitting on a little deck, having a drink. He and his wife lives across road there.

I started out in public accounting and moved over to Healthcare finance for 35 years. I ran a department that audited and determined reimbursement for hospitals and other institutional healthcare providers for the Medicare program.

Am now retired. No consulting here.

They have "BBQ" sort of. We BBQ brisket and ribs in Tejas, they BBQ tri tip. What the #### is tri tip? I mentioned to some of my coworkers that I liked a baked potato with chopped BBQ in it. They looked at me with the classic lost look and asked "What is chopped BBQ?" I was completely confused. These people have never eaten crawfish. They do not have good fajitas here. PLEASE, SOMEBODY, TAKE ME TO PAPPASITOS FOR SOME BEEF FAJITAS!

Default Corvette

Hi

I have always wanted a mid year. My first "driving" experience behind the wheel was in 1971 my uncle had a black 1967 Corvette. I was 4 years old with the help of my brother I managed to pull down the emergency brake and "coast" down hill going into on coming traffic. I never seen my Uncle run so fast as he jumped on the deck lid and pulled up the emergency brake. My dad had a 1966 Corvette when we lived in California 1972 (Vandenburg AFB) he just got back from Vietnam I remenber watching the planes in the sky and alot of the pilots drove Corvettes or Jaguars.

I knew I had to get one of my own someday..In 2004 I bought my dream car (first mid year)and have never looked back..

Im in construction and have worked alot of jobs...Currently working in Orlando near "the mouse" building a Hilton, New Orlando Convention Center, and Waldorf Austoria all together.

The dream lives on..

Did a stint as a Army aviator (fixed-wing warrant officer) during WWV back in the early 70's. Now 34 years as a freight dog. Fly for a major overnight freight company delivering all your precious parts ordered off E-blay so you could put your pride and joy back together. Carried a lot of other s**t as well. Semi-retired now (senority #4) so only fly when I want rather than when they think they need me. Taking time now to enjoy the cars, boats, and bikes. Wasn't that a John Candy/Steve Martin movie? Anyway, it's been a great life, and getting even better now that I am taking the time to enjoy it fully. Today is the last day, so live it to the fullest!!
