I spent the last couple of weeks build a 327 engine. Last weekend, I finished the preassembly. Everything checked out so moved on to the final assembly. I am going to change the oil breather filler cap.
One question:
what are the small round 16 seals from the fel-pro gasket kit? These are about 1/4 inch wide. I did not have gasket sealant for the timing chain cover. I used a solid one piece seal for the oil pan.
I left the ARP chromemoly bolts as black since I liked the contrast. I am not going the NCRS route.
I think the valve lashing is correct. I doublechecked all of the torque specs on the main caps, rods, head bolts and intake bolts.

Are you talking about the tiny rubber square cut donuts Jim? Those are the valve seals that go under the keepers on the valve stems. If your machine shop assembled your heads then they would have put some on, or used bigger umbrella seals. I think that's what you're talking about. Looking good. K
james ,
what super job, must be gratifying to see it coming together..and i'm just trying to get mine to run right.....keep those photos coming i need the inspiration.

yea, the machinist did the heads. I was not sure what the gaskets were for. Thanks!

It is gratifying to do most of the work. At least my wife knows where I am at pretty much all of time.
Next, is to work on the engine accessories. I found a two deep groove pulley. I know it is not original.
Okay, it has been awhile since I have responded to this thread. Now, to get caught up...
Interior is almost complete. All I need to do is put the package tray back in and screw in the 4 speed console plate.
I still have to finish wiring the engine harness. Plus, I need to prime the motor, install the clutch, starter, driveshaft and radiator. Then it is checking the rest of what I did in the past just for precautions. Plus, I need to get the horns redone at some point. I have not checked the wiring underneath the dash to see if everything is working properly. It looks like I might have it done sometime in April if all goes well.

Cool, that should take about 5 minutes, is now a good time?

Were you able to get your fender repaired?
No, there is some things I need to have touched up. I am going to talk to they guy who painted the car and see what he thinks. I want it driving before I go any further. It can wait.
I'm always interested in a '62 restoration. I did mine back in 1988. In looking at your progress I came upon a bracket I never saw before. The top frame support bracket plates. I had to check to see if I had them...and I don't. So i looked in my AIM and sure enough on page B26 they show the brackets. I guess the bracket just lends support to the soft top? Anyway thanks for the pics...I now have another "project" for the 'Vette.
