Thanks guys I will check it out. Looks like I will get a chance to spray the jams, around the hood, decklid, headlight area and rear valance tomorrow morning. I really want to see the rally red since its been primer gray for sometime now. Will have some pic's tomorrow.
Thanks SonnyAK me too!!!!
May 2 and it's 47 degree's. I have the heater going in the garage and the temp is 75 in there but I have to open the garage door to get the harley and lawn mower out unless I want them to be rally red too even though the mower is red. I am hoping t will warm up fast with the sun coming out.
[QUOTE=1589540271]I got my date coded windshield from Pilkington.
On my list; ( at the very bottom )
1. Date coded glass
2. Date coded rubber for the wipers
3. Date coded air for the tires
4. Date coded antifreeze
5. Date coded suspension bushings
6. Date coded paint
Some really live by the code and the world is closing in.
My moto is ;
Smell the flowers,
Drive & enjoy the car
Leave my ego in the closet
Share laughter, excitement, & great times with friends
Wash the car when soiled
Replace whats broken with replacement parts
Drive the car
Neither sibling wants these so whats left in the end may be donated to a good cause. Every little bit helps.

If that works for you then by all means, knock yourself out but try to accept the fact there are other ways of doing things that bring just as much enjoyment.
Very Busy day yesterday. I pulled some tape off and cleaned up the garage which has a red tint now. going to let it sit for awhile then blocking and polishing.
Don't know how much blocking you can do with the depth of the clear. Color sand and buffing will bring out the depth. Great color choice. Over spray cleanup in the garage will be the hardest part depending on how fussy you are.
yeah my painter started doing the hood and front fenders and he started with 1500 grit but had me go out and get 1000. I installed the hood and doors this afternoon. Going to be wet sanding and buffing this week. Where he did it came out great.
Great job Marty. from the looks of the jams etc, you could have painted the whole car yourself.
how many coats of clear? SPI can be color sanded for ……. ever, it seems. no need to start cutting too soon. with the cool weather you've had, during bodywork, you could get some shrinkage into the sanding scratches once the cars sees sunlight for a few days and I don't think you want to be color sanding all over again down the road.
once again… great job! love to see a guy DIY his own cars. it's what real car guys do.
Thanks Russ for your welcomed comments. We sprayed with two coats of Dupont clear because my painter Vic loves it. Not to many scratches but the paint has trash on the top of the hood, fenders and deck lid. Sides came out great. As you know it will happen in a garage. Vic will be wet sanding the top areas with 1000 then 1500 and I will sand everything else. I know everyday it will get better and better. Right now she looks very red and your eyes have no bling to look at. Wallet will be empty soon. Again thank you Russ for giving me the confidence to start my project. It is the first and most expensive project I ever have done. I can cross this one off my bucket list. How many guys can say they tore apart a perfectly good vette and made it better. Here is a pic of Vic's ride. He built it in his one car garage in 3 three months by himself including engine and paint.
Looks great! It'll be awesome once you get the sanding and buffing complete!
I painted the front of my old Bronco last fall (in Alaska)...The forecast was supposed to be really nice, but when I started painting, the temps dropped and it started raining (gotta love the weather forecast here) so I got some pretty peely paint...I was able to sand a lot of it away and was absolutely amazed how much I could sand before depleting too much of the clear...I'm sure you'll be in awesome shape with the sanding from what I see that you've got going there!! Can't wait to see your completed ride!!
Thanks SonnyAK. I took the day off but went to work instead. I have all the parts, bags of bolts, nuts and screws ready. I am ordering a windshield tonight and few other broken parts then start putting her back together again for the last time. My learning experience is would I do it again - Not a vette again. It really is an expensive deal. I looked at the chrome parts and when you put them up against a newly painted car the answer is open the wallet and spend more. I commend all of you who do this for a living and guys who just do it. My hat is off to you!
