If you don't like sanding then have someone paint your car for you. I been at it since 5 this morning. I finished a little while ago. One more coat of primer and then color. Will update with pic's in a couple of days.
She is ready for paint. Now down to three colors-rally red, silver pearl or the original color of satin silver. I have a 1965 327 large journal short block and have all the top end parts to have it close to original as possible. Please chime in on the color. Should have her painted by next week.
Never thought of sebring silver. My paint guy wants to paint it a solid color but I know I can talk him into it. Thanks
My car was silver/blue when I bought it but just does not do it for me. Women Loved the color.
Knowing that my opinion or what I write really has no impact on your decision.
So I will write this.
You only live once.... and paint it the color that YOU love. It does not matter what anyone else thinks (including me). This is what I tell my customers..."Paint it the color that you LOVE when walking up to when you go to get in it".
Solid or metallic/pearl color. Coming form a painter....a solid color is a lot easier to paint. Metallic/pearl colors do take more effort and ability in making sure the metallics/pearls are applied correctly and EVENLY without streaking, striping or blotches. You can ALWAYS tell when a light colored metallic/pearl color is applied correctly when you look at it on an overcast day. Overcast days will let me know if I got it right. Sunny days do not help due to the blinding effect some colors put off and it is hard to see when in direct sun light.
When it comes to 'possible' paint repairs in the future. BOTH can be a problem for the painter. Just because it is a solid color does not necessarily make it easier to repair. Especially if the solid color that was chosen took several toners to make the color....versus...using a solid toner... just my itself.... right off the mixing machine.
Dub, I understand your point of view and I will take your advice because it should be me making the choice but there are so many colors that I really like. Your right about the metallic on a overcast day. You can spot a good paint job and one which was sprayed uneven. I have a week to figure it out.
I am looking forward to seeing your car when you get it finished. There are a lot events up here (Virginia Beach) you can enjoy with your car. Keep us updated.

I have been up to the Vette shows a couple of times. Hopefully you will be able to find me with a Rally red paint job!
Yes it is. I had a red 72 Volkswagen super beetle which my brother bought new and I got it in 74 and that thing always gave me pleasure after waxing it. So that's my choice and I am sticking with it.
I finished my last sanding. I am dead tired. Never knew how much bull work goes into making it right. Now I know why the cost is so damn high. Going to paint the door jams, headlights and areas inside where they fit and hood edges and back rear panel in the next couple of days depending on the weather which has not be good to me these last few weeks here in the Outer Banks.
I feel like a weatherman. High here will be 65 degrees all week so no paint until maybe the weekend which according to them it will be 72 -75. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
