im sure this might rub a few diehard NCRS guys wrong, but has anyone ever used the new LED dash lights in there dash cluster? i am thinking, as big of a pain they are to change out i thought of trying some out just for the life span and of course they are suppose to be brighter..any thoughts? thanks troy
I replaced some bulbs, not all, just where I wanted a brighter light. Like turn signal indicators (can't see them in bright sunlight), emerg. Brake light, courtesy light, tail lights.

they were a plug and play then? how do you like them? no resistors needed in the lines? thanks for the input...troy
Do a forum search -- there are a ton of threads on this topic; some quite recent and in great detail.
frankie, i did a search, but i did not see any threads that listed LED stuff? what did i miss here? do you have a known thread your thinking about? thanks for the help..troy
I tried LED in my dash last year and the ones I bought would not dim. I used 1416 bulbs and I'm pleased with the results. Much brighter than the stock 1816 and have a 1000 hour life. The 1416 will not fit in the blinker location and LED do work great for blinkers. You can compare specs for the 1416 and 1816 in this link. The other thing that will help with viewing your gauges is to take the lenses out and clean them on the inside. Tim. http://www.donsbulbs.com/cgi-bin/r/b...-electric.html

Yes, plugged right in, no resistors. I love them, one reason I didn't change them all is they won't dim.
Bought them at superbrightleds.com, except for the courtesy light.

I have changed every single bulb in my 58 over to LED. From front to back it is all LED bulbs. I will say that it has made a substantial difference. The only thing I needed to do was change my flasher to allow the front single lights to flash properly. I have posted a picture for you that shows the difference just in the cluster. The small gauges have LED but I left the tach and speedometer with the old conventional bulbs for comparison. Needless to say they are also now LED bulbs. You can clearly see the difference in brightness. All my LED were purchased with superbrightled and the flasher I purchased at Zip corvette. From the taillights, plate lights to the signal lights and everything in between, are all now LED. Interior and exterior.

59,
Are you saying that the LEDs do dim, since you left in the courtesy light?
The LED's in my 58 all dim....If you ask me how,,,,I couldn't tell you. I just changed over to LED and tested the dimmer and they dim.
That's interesting. That has been the drawback for many considering converting over to LED...the fact that they could not be dimmed with the factory rheostat. Wonder if something has changed in the LED technology?
And a big "Thank You" to Bomba_MC for recommending these LEDs!

My pleasure,,glad I was able to help and it worked perfectly for you.
Did you also change over your taillights? I changed over every single bulb in my car and they all work great, both interior and exterior lights.
