Melting Slicks
Thanks for the comments Wayne.
The hardtop is an original '62 hardtop (or possibly a '61), but it wasn't the one that came with the car.
Unfortunately, that was one of the items I lost when it was stolen. And....I had just finished restoring it after sitting in the rafters for over 20 years!
A friend of mine had purchased this hardtop and offered it to me for the same price he got it for. Thanks Deano!!!
It was in "pristine" condition for it's age, but I still restored it, and painted it to match the car.

Congratulations on the award, sorry I missed that show this year. It was a good year for Corvettes, my 65 won for best American Design on Tuesday in the Concours on the Avenue. A very nice 65 396 coupe won an award at the Mission Classic on Wednesday.

The only unfortunate thing is that it cost me a "TON" of money out of pocket! The insurance did great, but since I had it down, I went ahead and made more modifications.
Also, regarding the top, just hold tight and find an original. They do come up, and even if it needs restoring, I think that's the way to go.
I find I'm much better off going with restoring the original, rather than attempting to purchase after market.

If you are considering the aftermarket top from the company I'm thinking of -- don't.
I've seen them - they don't look right and once you pay for the "goodies" to trim it out to look 1/2 way decent you are well into the striking range of an original. I only paid $2,200 for mine 5 years back - original and only needed the header weatherstrip - $18 for that..
I think I had it on the car all of 5 times in that 1/2 decade...
