My wipers work... now that I changed the whole wiper motor assembly!
Two years ago I had to drive about 2 hours in the rain on one of the last outings before winter, and the wipers stopped cooperating after about 45 minutes. I wanted to start troubleshooting when the distributor was out the next spring, but they were working again...
I assumed the issue was moisture, and before engaging in a 3 and a half day classic car rallye through the Alps last fall, I sprayed the motor and contacts with WD-40 to try and keep water out. Of course, the first day of the rallye was rainy, and of course the wipers only lasted the "usual" 45 minutes.
On both occasions, Rain-X saved my bacon.
The first time was on highways, so it was fine, but the second time was on mountain roads and it was a lot less fun: you need speed for the airflow to push the water drops away. After peeking through the droplets on the windshield for hours, the mountain side, road and skies were all different shades of grey that seemed to blend together at times...
We won't even discuss C1 wipers.....they are clown car stuff....
My 63 wipers work on lo and high and park but they are noisy and a bit jerky at each end of the sweep. I don't remember if that's just the way they were 'back in the day' or they were more smooth (meaning I have a problem)...
My '64 wipers work, now. They didn't the very first time I drove in the rain. Was quite a surprise to me to find out in the downpour they didn't work. Got new assemblies installed, and all is fine now.
I have found that the C-2 wipers work just a little bit better than the old vacuum wipers. When you stepped on the gas, the wipers stopped for a moment. What an adventure. Jerry

Hi, actually the wipers worked fine, no problems....no leaks to speak of because of my third latch and I put clear packing tape 1/2 " on glass and the rest on trim on the front edge of windshield . 2 " tape...keeps the water from going under rubber seals on top...even with third latch, at 70 + mph...water wants to come in. The tape stops it, and directs it up over the fold in canvas top. When rain stops , I just peel off tape and throw out. I keep the tape in my glove box....don't worry about it anymore...
Now driving in rain...that is a different story. RainX would not have helped in the video I posted , because it was fog and rain and lots of rain in warm temps that reduced visibility....even if you were not looking through glass..

Unless you add a simple vacuum reservoir to fix that problem...
A trick I learned in the 60's from my Dad when some cars were still using vacuum wipers. Works great... lasts a long time!
