I said he'd be thousands of dollars ahead if he bought one in the US.....not that he could buy one for less than 15k. By thousands of dollars ahead, I meant that he could buy a much better car for 30k and have much less time and money in it (including shipping) when the car was done than if he purchased the 15k rathole he's looking at in his backyard and sunk tens of thousands into it to get it close to the condition of the 30k car. Forgot about the language issue, though!!!

Sorry guy misundertanding issue here.. slightly different meaning I agree, english is not my mother language, got sometimes small bugs.

@Robert : Ouawww... so beautiful to read and look at the pictures but I imagine working on it was tough but leads to total happiness !

I wish going over there someday but with the 6 months old son, going to US is not in the schedule for next years..

I knew chassis was fine, birdcage solid, the stainless window mouldings with some dents but perfectly restorable, the bumpers in good shape but needed rechrome. All these come in slices of 1000€ when they need replacement. I would not know what it means to do a 'half' restoration at 'half' the cost, apart from the certainty you'll have to work on the car for ever, but that can be fun too

the car was arleady in NL ? I added the website to favorites. did you estimate forecasts cost before buying it; did you stick with it ?

Yes, the car was in Holland already. But you could give them a briefing what you are looking for and then if they spot one in the US bring it over.
I did not make an upfront budget, but apply the 2x2 rule and you will not be far off: twice the money and twice the work of what you anticipate

In best case I have fun with son and car and these memories are priceless IMHO. As you said its not about profit and loss.. you understood me. 'Sometimes the journey is more fun than the destination' its exactly what I said to wifey but her reaction was not the expected one :S.
a few weekends ago my wife helped me do some fiberglassing in the interior of my 63...the next day she asked if we were going to do some more fiberglassing that day too...she was disappointed when I told her we were done for a while.....

As many have said here, this is just NOT the right car to take on for a project, but don't give up looking for the right car. The more correct and more complete you can find, the better off you will be, both for sanity, and monetarily. You have time if your son is still young, so don't rush into it, find the right car, you will know and be glad you did not buy this car! Best of luck to you in your search.

Please take all of the good advice given and run as fast as your little feet will carry you .It is a money pit even here in the US . Can't imagine what it would cost there .
