Several weeks ago there was a thread on hear that ent into detail how to make a removable crossmember in a mid year Vette. There was even an address for someone making the plates to do this with. For the life of me I cannot find that thread and I want to pull my tranny but after hearing stories on here about how hard it is I want to do the bolt in conversion. Thanks for your help.
You will often have better luck searching by using Google instead of the search function here. That’s what I did for this. Dave
I just don't understand that. I think the problem here is people may not know you need to click the "advanced search" option. I just did that, typed in "crossmember", and selected C1-C2 forum. It immediately gave me 500 results. I then went back, and under "crossmember" I selected "thread title only", hit search and it instantly gave me 129 results. The advantage to this as opposed to Google is the forum search lists the threads in the same format, in order, and shows who the OP was.
I ALWAYS use the "advanced search", maybe the admins need to just remove the "regular" search and make "advanced" the default.
And to the OP, many on here have done that. Forumite "Elwood13" recently did his '67 and I think he posted them on the thread about "My brother's Corvette" . The overwhelming feeling on here seems to be if you're not concerned with originality or judging, it makes working on the car way easier.
honestly the trans is not that bad of a job. I can think of worse jobs to do And honestly how many times are you going to have to remove the trans in the cars life time that justifies hacking up a good frame. I know I’m going to get flamed for saying that

Keith, Murphy's Law says something will go wrong. If I make the modification, everything will work perfectly the first time, and for as long as I own the car. But if I don't, SOMETHING will require taking the tranny back out. I don't have a lift, I'm not 30 any more (or 40, or 50, or 60 ) and since I'm already putting a non-original frame under the car, I have to stop worrying about originality. Believe me, part of me does not want to do it, but my goal is to drive it and enjoy it so common sense says maybe this is the way to go.
Mine is an all original, numbers matching car & I put one in.
I cant wait to burn thru the new clutch, just cuz it will be easy to pull the trans when I need to.
These are the flanges I used, my fabricator is skilled and was able to do it with body on, but I wouldnt have tried it myself.... needs cutting and welding close to floor and nice neat welding so the bolts are not fouled. I am sure someone does/did make these for $50, but the retail markup is big !
I used these flanges as well and installed them with the body on - but had to lift each side of the body slightly to make the cuts - tough job but we got it done! Easy to remove the crossmember now!

This thread is not too ancient yet so I'll revive it. Just about to place an order for the brackets mentioned by daz_au and I believe others have mentioned them. Going on a non-original frame. Anybody else have good or bad things to say about them?
I have a brand new set of these flanges purchased from a forum member that I’m not going to use. My 66 body sets just too close to the frame for serious cutting and welding and I’m just not up for raising the body at this point. 100.00 with free shipping. PM me to purchase.
Bought a set of these brackets from a forum member and they look great. However, he did not have the instructions which come with the brackets when bought new. While I understand how they work, sometimes the directions contain advice or tips which might not be readily apparent, and this is my first time using them. Does anybody have a set of those instructions they could scan and post, or otherwise get to me? Thanks!
Ray Dowling made those style flanges...I had a set put in my 67. There is a thread on here somewhere where they were first introduced back in 2013-14 timeframe. Not sure if Ray sold the patent to APT, but I sure as hell didn’t pay $141 bucks for the brackets.
Anyway, if you don’t have room, it’s because your floors have sagged. Get a few hockey pucks and put them between the crossmember and the floor. This will do wonders for your seat height and driving comfort if nothing else.
