Also, as you remove the screws on the face of the cluster that hold it in, replace a few of those with some 6 inch long 1/4 x 20 bolts through the screw holes that hold the cluster in which allows you to slide it out some. That way, you can more easily get to the wires and bulb connections. It gives you some much needed room to unplug stuff.

A lot of good advice has been posted to help you. The only thing I would add in removing the oil gauge line is to be sure to put a shop rag under the line to catch the oil as you undo the line . Then gently point the line upward slightly without getting a kink. Finally, place a rag on the floor underneath the line to protect your carpeting from any errant oil drops. Good luck, and just take it slow in the entire cluster removal process and you’ll be fine. Mike 😀👍

Thoroughly read the paper by the late John Z. The gauge package falls into one of those tasks whereby you think, "as long as I am at it", why not:

* replace the wiring harness if it's in any way suspect.
* replace the bulbs with LEDs if desired.
* replace the bearings in the steering column.
* check the firewall insulation and replace if necessary.
* grease the pivot points of the wiper transmission
* check the wiper motor and if suspect, now is the time to address any potential issues.
I am sure there are other items to add to the list. Good luck. Jerry

I did a search for a 1967 Corvette assembly instruction manual. Eight different books came up from ebay, ranging from $27 to $99.99! I was expecting one manual that was identical, geez how do you pick the right one!!! Where can I find the "simple form on how to remove it" that you wrote? Thank You!

Thanks again, I sure do appreciate you. Was checking ebay, found one for $29.68, seemed reasonable and tired of taking all this time so it's on it's way!
