65 trip odometer
My trip reset **** does not work. All digits on the trip roll as I travel. If I pull the reset **** it will drop down 3-4 inches. Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

Can you check to see if the cable is still attached to the back of the cluster

Understand that. Push and turn will not reset the trip as it should. Just saying that I can also pull on the **** and it will extend 3-4 inches. So my question is, is it a cable issue or something inside the odometer itself. Again, going down the road, all 4 numbers are moving, tenths, ones, tens, and hundreds places, and I cannot get it to reset or to stop turning.

If you are able to pull on the **** and it pulls out 3-4 inches, it sounds to me like the other end is not connected. That cable is not long enough to have 3-4 inches extra slack. Depending on how long you have owned the car, there is a chance that a previous owner disconnected the cable because as I understand it, over the course of time the odometer gears can also screw up your odometer and speedometer. Many owners have disconnected their cables for this reason. '65 and '66 reset cables are fairly easy to access. The '67 is way more challenging.

I would think not. You need to go through a process of elimination, so you need to know why the cable comes out that much.

The cable is separated at the point where the rubber meets the brass fitting. That is apparently why I could pull it out so much. Don't know if that should be glued or fitted by some other method. Looks like a replacement cable. Forced the brass back into the rubber and I was able to reset. Haven't gone for a ride yet, but that still does not explain why every number was turning.
