Default Dynomomonometer question

Do any chassis dynos read the low end? I see most of the mags and some posted here start at over 3 grand.

One mag did a tune up on a 327 and it went low to around 2500 but not all the way down.
Seems to me that I'm driving around in the zone they don't ever mention.

Chassis dynoes will record any rpm the operator chooses. With automatics you have the problem of the tranny downshifting if you floor it at a low rpm but with a manual you can dyno it from idle. When I dynoed mine I did 1500 rpm and up.

Did you ever dyno tune your car after the FI install?

I was wondering how it affected you HP and TQ

I admit to being lazy. I did some quick tuning on the dyno and ended up making slightly less power than the holley but more than the edelbrock carb. Later turned out I had two flat cam lobes. After I replaced the cam I made another pull. Ended up about the same as the holley carb but not better. It matches what I've heard about EFI. It usually doesn't make more power than a good carb but drives better. I probably should make some more dyno pulls and see if I can best the carb numbers. I may if I tune it to the edge.

Typically, most fuel injection systems make about the same peak hp as a carb. The exception is the tpi system which has such long runners that the engine is done at 4500 rpm or so, although I've seen some mods to those systems that will make them pull strongly to 6000. The big advantage to efi is that you get gobs of torque low down. In fact a few years ago, Super Chevy or Chevy High Performance did a dyno test on a 3rd Gen Camaro with tpi and got some good top end numbers, but the low end looked awful. One of my friends wrote in to question the results because they were showing numbers over 150 foot # below what a stock engine should put out. They admitted in answer to his letter that they didn't check it on the dyno through out the rev range, they did a peak horsepower dyno pull and extrapolated the rest of the numbers from a chart. The chart was obviously from a carb engine.
