I have owned 4 C3's and 1 C5 and will purchasing another C3 within the next couple of weeks. I guess that shows my preference. I loved the C5 for it's creature comforts, power and sophistication, however, I think that the C3 has the most beautiful curves! Being a hard-core Corvette enthusiast, I like ALL Corvettes!
Also, we must remember that the C4, C5 and C6 owners are trying to compare the C3 cars with the technology incorporated into their Vettes. The C3 was of the best sports cars (if not THE best) of it's time.
My '68 was a horrible piece of crap* with panels that didn't fit right, lousy paint, lousy handling, etc, etc....and then I fixed it....myself
*Just like all the other cars made during that era! Just ask Barrett-Jackson how bad they were.
A pal of mine likens a C3 (or any early Corvette) to a super-model: They sure look beatiful, and it's a lot of fun being seen out in public with one, but they sure can be high maintenence.

LemansBlue68, you are certainly right! I did a frame-on restoration of my last '77 and have the scars to prove it! C3's are a pain to work on but I love'em
Now don't let OT get you angry...remember, most of the OT regulars don't even OWN Vettes!!!
Yep, i almost got banned a few months back when i went to OT and told them the section consumed about 1/2 the bandwidth for the whole CF, was a complete waste, and should be eliminated.
Got some replies that just about amounted to death threats. There are some freaks over there.

yup, the sad part, those freaks think they are Corvetteforum.....
i just loved the person that posted he had a 64, 65, 66, 67, and that the 68 was a tottal piece of crap. THEYRE ALL THE SAME CAR except for the 68 body. all tottaly identical underneath. ( + or - ) typical bunch of tools that blow off at the mouth. ( or keyboard )

Yep, I tried, and tried and tried to get that point accross, but to no avail..some think that shock and spring option constitues a whole new drive line....
I said all I'm going to say in my last post...I'm outta there...
I didn't exactly buy my '79 for speed reasons or creature comforts, hell I'll probably just have my L82 rebuilt when it dies some day. To me its about the feel of it, the look, and the fun of workin on it. When someone tells me about how they have a killer sound system in their car, now I just tell them have a bitchin AM/FM radio with a CB
Excellent point. To sterotype for a second - a LOT of those C6 owners look like the I'm-a-rich-lawyer-doctor-and-never-do-any-of-my-own-work-on-it types. Instant a$& hole, just add money
As far as the Mustang goes, I must confess, I came VERY close to buying an '05. If you haven't driven the GT 5 spd, then you don't know what I'm talking about. I loved it! The leather seats (designed by Volvo) are awesome, as are the gauges. And it's fast ! But, I wasn't going to pay sticker, much less thousands over sticker (even for a used one at one place) so I stuck with tried and true Chevy and bought a '70 Vette and I love it!

Don't knock the 53-54, for the time they handled great, and the twin carbed six wasn't a pig either.
Check Corvette history and you will find that the late 50's early 60's C1's won many races, Sebring, The Glenn, and others and were competitive in LeMans. The Rolling chassis was unchanged from 53-62.
One thing I've learned with that thread...all those guys bashing corvettes, are not Corvette enthusiasts, they just happen to own a Corvette. As I mentioned at the Dark Side (OT), there is no such thing as a bad Corvette, some design flaws, but those were quickly changed and fixed.
Each generation has its strong and weak points, and to lump all years together...well it's just plain stupid, as we all know, that the current generation is light years ahead of the C1's and to put the two in the same mix and compare, it's just idiotic.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
