With all due respect, the drop in '71 compression did not affect performance greatly; case in point; the 425HP 454 LS6
And I might add that as far as "muscle cars" 1972 is regarded as the last year. This is because it was the last year for solid lifter cams & Holley carbs on LT-1s.
But I agree the vette "427" is truly a legendary motor!

i just feel I just wasted 10 minutes of my life I'll never get back by reading this thread.
After the entire read I STILL have no clue what the point of it was.
are you saying prices are too high or too low?
sheesh!

it's simple no matter what the point was.
the market is what it is.
Chrome bumper C3's currently have a higher market value than rubber bumper C3's.
Whether or not anyone personally feels the prices of a chrome bumper C3 are too high or too low is irrelevant. It's what the market is. When selling a car someone can ask anything they want for it. If it sells at a high price it's because a buyer wanted that car - period. that's all it means. If it doesn't sell than it simply means the market doesn't accept thier asking price.
No more, no less.
The market is what it is.

BTW, I noticed for comparison purposes that you tried to list all mainly all condition 3 cars. that's great but another factor comes in that what one person considers a #3 car may not be what someone else considers a #3 car.
Even when comparing all #3 cars, which will cary depending on who you ask, other variables come into play - options, rarity of those options or combinations of options, numbers matching or not, etc, etc.

Personally, I've found those "lists" of sales people use to judge values on cars to be next to worthless, especially the ones liting "asking price". Selling price is all that matters and even than it's worthless unless more detailed information about the car is supplied..

Personally, I feel that while this thread may have been started with good intentions, it's completely useless on proving any point one way or another simply because the information given as evidence is FAR from complete and severly lacking in true, equal, useful comparisons and all it's managed to accomplish is get people argueing and upset with each other.

I'd like my 10 minutes of my life back now please!
