Default Vette Prices......Part Two.

As some of you know I looked a while at many chrome bumper vettes for sale, but couldn't pull the trigger because of the high prices being asked for them. Below are some recent bid results from BG's auction and you can see reality below.

I'll use the '72's for an example...Most of the vettes you see for sale in various internet sites are usually class 3 cars (average street driven wear). The cars below are ranked for as follows 1=Excellent Show Ready, 2=Good-Minor flaws, 3=Average Street driven wear, 4=Running, needs paint, interior and body work.

Roadster, 4 spd., 350, no A/C, 3 condition, 22k bid, did not sell.

Roadster, auto, 350, A/C, 3 condition, 17.2K, sold.

Roadster, 33k miles, 4 spd, 454, no air, 3 condition, 30.5K, sold. (original paint)

Roadster, 4 spd, 350, A/C, 2 condition, 31.5K bid, did not sell.

Roadster, 4 spd, 350, no a/c, 3 condition, 23K, sold.

Ttop, 4spd, 350, A/c, 3 condition, 12K, sold.

Ttop, 33K miles, Auto, 454, A/C, 2 condition, 26K, sold.

Ttop, 49K miles, Auto, 350, A/C, 2 condition, 16K, sold.

Ttop, 37K miles, 4spd, 454, A/C, 2 condition, 23K bid, did not sell.

Ttop, auto, 350, A/c, 3 condition, 10.5K, sold.

Ttop, 70k miles, auto, 350, no a/c, 3 condition, 11.3K, sold.

Ttop, 4spd, 350, no a/c, 2 condition, 23.7k bid, did not sell.

Ttop, auto, 350, a/c, 4 condition, 8.8K, sold.

Ttop, 28k miles, 4 spd, LT-1, no a/c, 2 condition, 26.2k bid, no sale. (original paint)

Ttop, 25k miles, auto, 350, a/c, 2 condition, 28k, sold. (original paint)

Ttop, 4 spd, LT-1, no a/c, 2 condition, 21.5K bid, no sale.

Ttop, auto, 350, a/c, 4 condition, 12.9K, sold.

Ttop, 33k miles, auto, 454, a/c, 2 condition, 27.7K, sold.

Very interesting information..........(Information came from Vette-n-Vestments July market newsletter).

Just more to ponder on.........

Looks like I didn't do to bad on my '69 Vert. in Oct.'05 at 20K. Very solid platform to do a frame off, which I am doing now.
Thanks,

I'm calling his cell now!!! He's looking at a 73 350 no a/c paint re-done but not a great job. 350 is a new engine but NO idea what the true mileage is. We are offering $7000

You are trying to prove a point but with your own information and post you contradict yourself. The prices in the above list jump around from high to low. As you can see from your own list a lot of those cars pulled high dollars.

The only thing your proved is your not being able to afford what you really wanted so you settled for a 74 roadster project which is more in tune with what you had to spend. There is nothing wrong with that and I for one am very happy for you (third times the charm).

Just because you couldnt afford a chrome bumper vert doesnt mean you have to rag all chrome bumper verts. If you need to tell yourself the prices dont reflect the actual worth to help yourself live through the day while looking at your rubber bumper vert go right ahead.

Dont get me wrong, you will have a really nice rubber bumper vert when its all said and done but we all really know what you wanted and where you ended up.

Good luck in the build!

I wish you would quit jumping in the threads I start. You for some reason keep sayin "I can't afford" a chrome bumper, which is not true.

I DON'T WANT TO AFFORD A CHROME BUMPER AT TODAYS PRICES!! THERE IS A VERY BIG DIFFERENCE. NO PROBLEM PAYING 25 TO 30K FOR ONE, JUST WON'T.

Now I could go on and on with you, but I done with your constant stabs, and back handed compliments. Don't you have someone else to pick on?

You post a thread and if I feel the need to respond I will.

Okay, you can afford a chrome bumper but dont want to spend at todays prices, thats fine. Your the one who keeps posting about the prices and how lopsided they are and you yet again post another thread about it. Its almost like your trying to convince yourself. What is funny is that your very own posts (above) disprove your own point.

Back handed compliments or not they are still compliments.

He BOUGHT IT!!!! He traded a 1999 Harley Classic on it plus had to give a little money too! YIKES! Seems like it will be a good deal in the end. He is buying it knowing it needs some work...but he is looking forward to it! I think he is getting old and needs a project. I was the project for 18 years!

All this tells me is that C3 Corvettes are cheap compared to other muscle cars of the same era. If you don't buy at today's proces, I don't think tomorrows prices are going to be any better. I'd be more worried about the bottom falling out if I was buying a $70,000 mustang, a $45,000 clone camaro or a six figure mopar. I can't see a chrome bumper car losing much becuase they are still relatively cheap compared to others.

The point of this post, though well beyond your head, is that "most" of the cars advertised on internet sites are way over priced. Simply, nothing more or less.

Knowledgable buyers at BG auctions prove this by the amount they bid on the cars. Why don't you subscribe to a service so you can educate yourself about the value of vettes, before you spout off.

My point is not to attack the sellers, but to educate the buyers. I guess that scares you with your over valued chrome bumper, huh?

Reality hurts......it must be hurting you?

Go to a typical for sale vette site, and see what I'm talking about. The asking prices are ridiculous for the most part. You will find some however that are properly priced, and they usually sell very fast.

Another point, and hopefully you will understand this one as well....Most of the owners and dealers (especially the dealers) are just throwing a high price out their and fishing for dummies with more money than sense.

Maybe this is all over your head?

Dayum Jake, I forgot you had a 72 Roadster....considering it's probably a 3 class daily driver, its worth between 17-23K, according to educated buyers. You may be very happy with that, or dissapointed if you have been looking asking prices, versus actual ones that have sold. Ebay is another fine place to see which cars sold, and for what. Most of them don't.

Now buzz on over to a couple of websites and look at the asking prices on a 72 vert, 350, in 3 condition.......Make yourself feel better!!
