I took delivery of my '79 in June of '79. Very soon after that, I started seeing pictures of the '80. I was pissed because the '80 rear bumper was ready for 79, but Chevy held it back to introduce with the new front end in '80. I loved the rear, hated the front. But after all these years, the '80 nose has grown on me. I'm bi, I could go either way.
In the Porsche community we have one simple piece of advice, "buy the best condition and latest year model you can afford".

No contest for me - I'd take the '80. Not only because I've owned a couple, but I just think they are just that extra bit cleaner than the '79.

WHen I was looking for a C3 the only body style I was interested in was the 80-82, I thought it was the meanest looking Vette out there.

I looked at alot of c3 vettes before purchasing my 80 and I think it is the sharpest of the C3 era. The 80-82's look fast when parked. Just my 2 cents.

1980 The front and rear fascia and the alluminum rear end with fiberglass spring. I don't know why you didn't get it with a 4 speed.

80 because of the more aggressive looking front and rear bumpers..

'80 all day long. '80-'82 is by far the best styled car of the '74-'82 run and the '79 is probably the worst, not to mention they made a zillion of them. PC help them a bit but they are pretty low on the food chain.

I own the '80 but think the front end is a little heavy looking (kind of like a pole dancer ).

Love the '80 rear end. The 79 has a cleaner front end but not enough "junk in the trunk". Add the '80 spoiler to the 79 rear.

I also prefer the 78 and earlier seat design but that was not the question.

-Mark.

For me, it would be a 1980, with an L82 hood. ****.

Well, I always thought that the 80-82's were overdone with too many spoilers and vents and things.
I prefer the 78-79 look which is cleaner and closer to the 68-72 style which everyone loves.

What surprises me, is that the majority prefer 80-82.
I haven't actually counted, but it has to be 3 or 4 to 1.

I find it interesting that people love the 68-72 chrome bumpers.
But when the bumpers went rubber, people didn't like them very much
But when the rubber bumpers went extreme,
with spoilers and a "Leno" chin, they seem to fall in love again.

What's with that?

Question, can the 79' style rear lights be put into a 1980-1982 vette without major work ?

1978 was the 25th Anniversary year.

I thought from 80-82 the only hood available was the tear drop without a raised cowl.

I just wish anyone made a teardrop with a 2" cowl. I could use a little extra room under there.

79. I'd want an L-82 4 speed. You couldn't get 4 speed with the L-82 in 80. I like the 79 look a little better too.
