'79 or '80. You really can't go wrong either way. In stock trim, I lean toward the '80-'82 but when tastefully modified I'd be hard pressed to have a preference between the two.

I really like the '79 Corvette's when they are trimmed out like MassVette's. His '79 has long been one of my favorite C3's on the forum.

I can't seem to find a side view of his Vette but for some reason it looks longer, leaner, and meaner than the average C3.

I am a chrome bumper guy, but I would take the 80 with a L82 4sp because that is the last year for L82 or the 4sp.

You couldn't get 4 speed with L-82 in 80. All 80 L-82's were auto.

I would pic the 80, because of the smoother lines/sleeker look. It just looks like it would hold the road better, looks more like a sports car. IMO

The integrated front bumper looks a little cleaner but still their both great looking cars. There was some marginal improvement in the airflow for the 1980 yr.1980 was the yr. the Corvette started to lose weight..other than that its the same car basically.

True and that was a shame because that engine had 230 net horses good output for that down era. With decent rear end gearing and a 4 speed that might have been a mid to late 14 second car.

I see where Mid America motorworks offers this one (part # 608-135) from ACI. But I think it only adds 1 1/4" inner clearance.

Thanks for the part number but
Order Total $733.98
**** that. I'll buy a used hood for $100 and a case of beer for < $20 and get busy making my own hood with some fiberglass.

While I like the rear bumper of the 80, I like the "classic Stingray" styling of the 79 front end. Also I was never fond of that big back window on either car. The 85 MPH speedo is not too appealing either. So, I guess I'd take a 79 with an 80 bumper.

I meant an 80 with a 79 L82 hood.

What surprises me, is that the majority prefer 80-82.
I haven't actually counted, but it has to be 3 or 4 to 1.

I find it interesting that people love the 68-72 chrome bumpers.
But when the bumpers went rubber, people didn't like them very much
But when the rubber bumpers went extreme,
with spoilers and a "Leno" chin, they seem to fall in love again.

What's with that?
Well at least for me its because the front end not only looks better its integrated with the body visually better than the 79s spoiler which was literally bolted on.If I had a 79 Id want it clean with no spoilers.

I think the dark shades of red make them look longer. That is a hot car.

I agree, the 79 just looks "plain" to me, like something's missing.

I bought a 81 4sp and not once did I regret my decision.
After a few upgrades [eng.] I believe i got the best of both performance and styling.
