I ripped the aftermarket speakers out of the "storage area" to make more room..... ....also, with side pipes, I haven't found it necessary to roll the windows down......
I must look like a high school teenager at every light, revving the car up just to hear the flowmasters rumble and my cam has a pretty good lope to it too, so I know exactly what you're talking about. In fact I bought my car with a pretty good sound system and am selling the subwoofer and and amp for the exact reason you mention, I LOVE to hear my car run. It also helps that I've never had a car that had a performance cam in it with headers and nice exhaust, hence the kid in the candy store feeling.
"Radio"....is that the thing in front of the console taking up space where more guages could be? Huh.....Could someone post some instructions on how to operate it?
Actually, mine does work, but it's so crappy and the speakers are so shot I haven't even turned it on in a couple years. When I first bought the car over three years ago, first thing I bought was parts to put a nice stereo in it. They're still up in the garage attic, and who knows when I will do it. Not for several years at least. Very low priority for me, kinda like paint. First I need a 5-speed tranny and fuel injection and aluminum wheels and........
Lately I've found myself turning off the radio, rolling down the windows and just LISTENING to the purr of the exhaust while driving. I just love the sound of accellerating away from a stoplight. It's better than music. In other vehicles I've owned, I absolutely hate having no music. I can't drive to the corner store without having the radio on. It drives me crazy. But it the vette, I could drive for hours just listening to that low rumble. Anybody else? Or am I losing it?!
A new sat. radio was approved by my better almost 4 months ago. Still haven't done it. I just keep the rear windo out and listen to THAT music.
we are all of the same breed (or is it mutation). i spent a disproportionate amount of time and effort , even building a roll cage around the psychotic stereo the car came with. i spent tons of money and added weight with dynamat. i hardly ever turn it on. the sts baffles are drilled to the max and the car screams. so much for stereo.
Why would you want to listen to the radio while driving a Vette?! You've got the choice of a DJ wanking on about a load of inane drivel, or Z list "celebrities" giving opinions on things that they know sweet FA about (eg Global Warming), or non-stop Eagles, Joe Walsh & Supertramp tracks, or rap, or hip-hop, or talk shows, or the music that you'd listen to at home, OR...... that wonderful 8 piece following you down the road There's no competition, the radio is there to fill an unsightly hole in the console! Besides, I couldn't afford the sort of sound system needed to drown out the exhausts
It all comes down to the definition of a true sports car. A true (originally) sports car puts you up close & personal with the mechanical workings of the thing, it doesn't divorce you from it all & cocoon you in a luxury sofa, surrounded by gadgets, with a smooth silent ride. You should hear each cylinder firing, you should hear the intake roar, the combustion rumble from deep within the motor, the gears meshing, the tires gripping (or not) the road, the dampers "whooshing", the sound of rockers on valves, pushrods chattering, etc. Music has no place here, it's the equivalent of a Spitfire with silencers!
