Default disassembled vette

Fellow I know has a boss that has a disassembled vette ,completely,I do believe. He told my buddy,I could buy it for a grand. Its a c-3 car, rubber bumper, and he thinks,an automatic,t top. Dont know the year, but sounds like 74 thru 82 .The guy just doesnt have the time, nor inclination,to put it back together. My wife said ok. Jeeze,I am wondering if I am crazy to even think about this. It has been stored inside for a few years, they cleaned out the shop and it now is sitting "out back", in the weather. I am thinking i cant go wrong with this, even to part it out...which i do not want to get into.Ok,lets hear how nuts I am.

Just do the math and add 50%. If you can keep in the black, go for it.

If you have the time and the space do it. If you want to part it out you won't lose anything but I hate to see another vette come to that end.

Why was it disassembled? It won't hurt to talk to him and see what you have there. What year, engine, body style, what is missing, why it is disassembled, condition of frame, and what it would take to put it back on the road.

I would if all the parts are there. At least this way you don't have to take it all apart for a frame off restoration

If you're serious take someone who knows these cars with you. I've looked at similar cars, mostly 74-82's. They were in the $3k range and always had boxes of parts the owners just had bought but never installed. What I found in every case was an over priced car that someone started on and got sick of pretty quick. Most of them were left out side for years and the suspensions, frames and interiors were total junk. One guy had boxes of all the old trashed parts that he said were good, of course they all needed to be replaced or rebuilt.

$1k may be a good deal or it might be an expensive paper weight.

The last one I looked at a few months ago was an 80 automatic, L48 that was gutted, paint stripped, suspension apart and bumpers junk. they wanted $3k for it but it just wasn't worht it, and I can rebuild everything on the car. If you have to pay someone to work on it, go for a nice driver for another 5-8K and enjoy it.

Good luck.

update..well,seems the engine/trans (auto) is missing. surprise , surprise. Its suppose to be a new frame ( reason for dissasy?). I am going ti try and go look at it thursday for 2 reasons. 1, to see whats there, what isnt, find out all the info i can..2 and biggest reason..my contact (buddy) is my daughters boyfriend, its his boss that has the car....and there IS trouble in paradise..so I need to meet the guy..just in case. They are holding the car form me,but heard that before. If this falls thru, the car is in Kinakee (?) il.

My wife feels the same way, let me know if you have heat and air. If not I'll bring it because I may have to sleep there.
