This is nice, we are getting more info from all of you. Living in San Diego and just a stones throw from L.A I would read or hear on the news that Mr. Garner would punch someone. Of course I don't condon violence but it did tickle me when he would do it and it always seem to make the news.
Now I see grown men wearing leather sandels (Arab dress shoes), some with no socks (yuck) or here in SoCal the plastic gators with a backstrap. Whats happening to the men in this country?!!!!!. This my friends is why at my age (56) I look up to guys like Mr. Garner, racer, tough guy and good all around American.
Two of the 1968 L-88 convertibles are in California. I believe they are owned by the Herlinger Bros. Dave Herlinger runs a Corvette repair facility in Hayward, Ca area. There are several articles written about them, a good article on the cars is in one of the past NCRS Corvette Restorer issues.
Not in Hayward! Corvette Repair is in Mtn View, CA (650) 969-5351 Dave owns L-88 #1 which has yet to be restored. Daves Brother Jim Herlinger owns L-88 #2 (meaning first and second production models built in 1968 model year.) You can see L-88 #2 at various West Coast Vintage racing Events when Jim Herlinger is not running his Baldwin Special or Kellison Vintage race cars. Dave is a good friend of mine and has taught me many secrets of Corvette preparation for winning at autocross and road racing. Dave also helped build the Elliot Forbes Robinson L-88 Vette that Mike Yeager now owns, that L-88 was perhaps the most winningest L-88 of them all and was the last A Production SCCA champion in 1978. Herb Kaplan was the original owner of the EFR L-88 and won many races with it in the late 60's early 1970's.
