Garner's a stud. He was the only actor in Grand Prix that could drive good. :
ALSO....Steve McQueen did all of the driving in the Mustang/Charger chase sceen in "Bullet". Same with the Motorcycle chase sceens in "The Great Escape". Did all of his own riding, and wanted to jump the fence (just before he gets caught). He argued again...but the studio would not let him. AHHH....Real men of Hollywood.

Yes, Dave Herlinger does have both L88's I've talked to Dave many times and is a wonderfull human being. I say this, as Dave is a Corvette enthusiast big time and will share his wealth of Corvette knowledge to whom may ask!! Thanks Dave
Dave's mechanical skills are also impeccable Below is a pic of what he did to my TA's and diff.
He looked and acted just like a regular guy. Always liked the Rockford files - I wish they'd bring those back on re-runs. Such a good show!
I see re-runs from time to time. I think they are going to show them every night on the Sleuth channel on Direct TV.
My daughter was an extra when filming Streets of Laredo. Jim Garner would talk back to the director and barked orders to the wrangler. During lunch he came out and sat in a chair. Everyone was afraid to talk to him.
I started talking to him and told him I was a huge fan of the Rockford Files. Me and a buddy used to do "Rockford turns" in his sister's Monte Carlo. He laughed. He was really a nice guy.
O.K laddies, I know one of you can lead me in the right direction. Being a huge fan of Mr. Garner and his racing career, I was curious if there was anything on this website concerning his L-88 team? I have been browsing the various websites but am always looking for more. Who owns the cars now? etc. Thanks in advance.
Living in the past is much better than eating the dish of carp their feeding us now.
Mike,
That last sentence says It all Tons of crap, for sure.

Note to all of us '68 owners. In one of the pictures, the grill edges are silver/chrome painted on the left/right sides as well as the center grill. Driver side mirror is mounted more forward then the later '68 produced cars. Front air dam is present, not a real early '68, but still an early production '68. In another photo in the showroom, it shows a stock '68 with the drivers side mirror place further back then the AIR cars.
Thats really interesting, and I saw that too. In my database research and idle time spent car spotting...The first aft mirror I have spotted was on 11722 and the next closest car, 11732 also had an aft mirror position. 11810 was back to a fwd mirror and they move around until almost middle of February where I have not seen a fwd past March. That production was 15000. So the 68 mirror was almost at exactly half of production but started early at car 11???. I will wonder what the Clippinger car's vin was and what happened to Bob Wingate's L89...?? The AIR cars are 5120, 5170 and 5186, so november cars with body dates between D 21 and D 24 I would guess.

Joe,
That is excellent research! I'll keep the information you provided in my own little archives. I have a '68 BB Coupe. My vin is 16,xxx with a b-day in the first or second week of April, I can't remember off - hand. It has most of the later production changes on it. Door panels are the "wider" version though. Let me know if you need any information for your dbase/archives.
My wife's uncle grew up with Jim Garner in Norman OK. They have been lifelong friends and still travel/hang-out together. Her uncle hit it real big in the oil industry in the 60's & 70's and ultimately bailed Jim out of his $ losing racing venture.
I've heard a lot of neat stories about Jim Garner, his racing venture etc... He has definetely lived an interesting life. My in-laws will get a huge kick out of the photos of him with the Vette!
The photo from the rear shows Dick Guldstrand in back on the left side and Bobby Joe MacDonald in back on the right side. The photo is from Gasoline Alley in Culver City CA. behind Dick's shop.
Dick drove and Bobby Joe was the crew chief. They both worked together at "DANA" Chevrolet and built the "Dana" Camaro's including 4 Trans-Am race cars.
Great guys both. Sadly Bobby Joe has since passed away just as many of the cars he helped to build are recieving the attention they deserve.
You're right. As gmanvette correctly pointed out, they were the Espirit model. I do remember reading years ago that they were heavily modified drivetrain wise. I just can't remember the specifics.
