I found a pretty clean 1973 T-Top, automatic, a/c, car today. I stopped and talked to the guy. I asked if he wanted to sell it and he said yes for $6,000. He said (and I haven't verified) that it's the original motor that was rebuilt a couple of years ago, and original tranny. It is black with black interior right now. The interior looks pretty good and the paint is not the best. The headlights won't go down. The frame is excellent. He said he just rebuilt the brake system. The a/c is not in the car. The vin# is 1Z67J3S433018 and the trim code is 404 and paint code is 976. From what I can decipher by the vin it's supposed to be a convertible??? Any help would be appreciated deciphering the vin and the codes. Also let me know if this is a fair price. I'm going by there tomorrow and take some pictures also he said I could take it for a spin. He started it for me today and it started right up and sounded good.
I would be suspicious that the VIN has been changed to one that was previously junked. Who would 'convert' a convertible to a coupe? Does the ID number on the head match the VIN?
The VIN listed is for a convertible. You need to be asking why a convertible VIN is appearing on a coupe. Coupes have "37" as the third and fourth characters in the VIN.
I would walk away find another the vin has been flipped check the title. This could end up being a can of worms. May have been a stolen car at one time.
