All the wire has to do is ground itself to blow the fuse, it doesn't necessarily mean it is touching another wire... just making enough contact with something to ground it to the frame... My brake lights did that for ages and it really ticked me off... so check to make sure the wire isn't grounding to the car...
you still have the same bug. Unplug the light timer and give it a shot, then the buzzer. If you have access to an ampmeter that would help troubleshoot. If not, rig up a brake light bulb with 2 wires, disconnect the + battery cable and connect the test light between the cable and battery terminal. With the doors open the test light should light up. Start unplugging stuff until it goes out, overhead lamp, cargo area lamp, kick panel lamps, timer, buzzer, cigar lighter.....
My 77 had an intermittent short in the cigar lighter that gave me a hard time locating, it never acted up when I was looking at it.
The timer actually gets power from 2 places unplug it and see if the problem goes away. I presume your car has one, I don't remember what year you have.
There is probably a "near" short in some wiring on one of the door jamb switches. It is drawing a lot of current and will catch fire in the door jamb if you leave it that way (if you are lucky, it only shorts when a door is open). Pull the negative battery cable, then remove each door jamb switch--one at a time--to see what is going on. These switches are pretty chinzy and can fail in odd ways. It could be a switch....it could be wiring. Good luck.
This is much the same reason I bought a new dash harness, rather than chase faults in a 25 year old (partially Bubba'd) electrical system
Were you doing anything in particular when it blew, ie, just opened a door, plugged something into the cigarette lighter, turned the interior light on...? Just a thought, as that may help narrow it down with above ideas

All the door jamb switches do is connect the wire to a ground (door frame) so it ain't gonna be there. you can cut that wire and connect it straight to the dor frame and all its going to do is turn on the light.
I just re-read one of your earlier posts and had a peek at your profile and I've thunk of 2 things...

Your profile says you have a custom stereo and you mentioned (among other things) that your radio now works. How long ago did you install the custom stereo? Loose wire or dodgy connection there maybe?

Did the buzzer work before the fuse started blowing? Maybe the buzzer has gone open circuit or shorting to ground.
I had same prob. (mines a 79 though) I found out bubba got to a couple of wires in the center console, which had come loose. ( I still dont know what the wires went to- I think one was for the radio) Anyway, i re-connected them, and havent had a problem since.
My point is, take a look behind the console, you might get lucky and find something obvious. I do agree that it's probably not in the switches themselves. Someone on the forum told me it might be the cigarette lighter, so you may want to check if thats on the same circuit. Good Luck
