Dear Mrs. Sperkins.
Please allow your husband to keep his beautiful C3 when he gets the C5. He's a good man, good provider, good faithful husband and wonderful father. His only weakness is Corvette Fever, not drugs, not other women, and not gambling and drinking. He's been a good friend to his buddys here and we would hate to lose him. Every, and I mean every, former C3 owner I've ever talked to, regreted selling their beloved Corvette C3. So maybe not today, not tomorow, but soon, and every day for the rest of his life, he's going to regret selling his baby. Don't let him do it. Both of you will be happier in the end.
Love,
Bee Jay

I got the same response from my wife when I said I wanted to get a C-5 (sell the C3 as the only option!). I've been trying to figure out how I can keep my 69 and get a C-5 so I have a similar situation. Add on the old "2 kids/college" stuff, and the fact that my wife is an X-banker, now working towards an accounting degree. Maybe someone can do a financial analysis, along with the above to plead my case, and then I can take her for a test ride in a C-5......
It's either that, or it's the old addage "it's easier to get forgiveness than permission" and suffer the consequences...
I don't think the C5's will deprecate as much as the c4's did b4 their recent stabilization. The C4's were an incredibly stereotypical car of the 80's which was murder on looks. The C5's will be a little more timeless I think, though I agree that the 68 will probably be worth big bucks in 5 years and it should not be dealt, unless it's a trade for a new ferrari.
You should do what I did. Told my wife its hard to be an avid car collector when you only have one car. She then asked me where I would keep the third car. Told her she can always park her van in the driveway LOL. She has yet to tell me to sleep in the garage. There are ways to get what you want without sacrificing what you have. Good luck
Last I checked, the only C3 which lost value last year was the 78. Where did you see that?
Last issue of one of the Corvette mags (I can't remember which one, I get so many) had almost all of the C3s losing value over the past year. My 69 was down about a $1,000 on average. Big blocks are holding up a little better, but there is a price correction happening now on C3s. Probably will head back up in the future I think.
Hard decision..your car is nice and unique (meaning don't see that many). C5 is a great car....hardly any maint, great mileage and comfort....and almost forgot.... FAST!
Gota do what I did, now this took a couple of years. Had the C3 and wanted a C5 the wife said I could'nt get one until she got a car. So she now owns a nice 69 camaro. Then we were out of room for my C5, built a new 3 gar garage. I now have my C3 and C5 its the only way to do it.
Not to hijack this thread, but do you guys really think this is true? I mean, IMHO, a C4 isn't even in the same league as a C5. I think C5s will keep their value a lot better than C4s.
Maybe what you say is true, BUT, a C5 will eventually not be worth
what it is today. That is not the case with a '68.
Considering what the mid years are now worth, the early
generation C-3's are right behind them. I'm just grateful
I've got mine.
You da man! Glad you were ablt to keep the 68. That looks like exacty the Z06 the previous owner of my 79 bought. He said there was no comparison btwn the 2. I wonder if he regrets selling the 79? He was using the 79 as his only car so that might have factored into the decision.
you go bro.... you get to have your cake and eat it too... i had the rear yard redone and just bought the wife a new mini van but i still can't get the thumbs up on a C6.
"tell us what you had to let your wife get in return?"
new kitchen? new bathroom? "spare set of keys to the z06?"
You nailed it man. She's been wanting hardwood floors, a new countertop, pantry and a new car for a while (more than a year). My response - "No problem", but she has yet to pick out any of it. I get the strange feeling that she wants me to handle it all.
From on 68 owner to another, CONGRATULATIONS on getting to keep your 68.
You also have a very understanding wife but youu probably already know that.
Let her know it too.

Yeah Scott, I'm officially jealous! The new car is definitely nice. Just so the forum community knows that thing still smelled brand new on the inside. It absolutely looks like it came from the showroom. The key to keeping both cars is to let the wife drive the Z06 from time to time. Take both cars to the cruise in etc. But....there better be a new car for Mrs. Perkins in the very near future. The Z06 is bad ***, but man, the roar from those sidepipes on the '68 can't be replaced. You might want to stop off somewhere today and pick her up some flowers or something "just because". Gook luck!!
you have to decide based on your own situation, but I've been there before, and what I learned was that it's a lot less painful to ache for the one you never had than to ache for the one you did have and let go.
My very first car, when I was 16, was a '70 Monte Carlo, bucket seats, slap stick shifter, 402 big block. Sold it to get a '75 Trans Am w/ 455 and 4 speed, but now at 46 years old, what am I doing? Working on my Corvette, but also looking for a '70 Monte Carlo like the one I had....
