For those interested in vintage racing, the SVRA events I have attended are without doubt the most fun I have had with my car. The people have been friendly and gracious, the cars fantastic, and having the opportunity to sit for hours and shoot the sh#t with racing legends like "fast" Phil Currin remarkable. They run the best tracks in the country and competition is fierce but always gentlemanly as no one wants to damage these irreplaceable cars.

These last 2 are not vintage racers but recently built to vintage specs and still SVRA elligable.

Finally the #8 "Lightweight L-88" one of the more historic vintage survivors extant. A superbly provenanced racer...
A frame shot for those abuilding...more if needed.
And from the National Corvette Museum, a brilliant paint scheme...

Now this car is awesome...I think this is the 67 L-88 that was rebodied as a 68 for the 68 season as (I guess) current L-88 cars were not ready. The car's L-88 exhausts are 1967 type, and are awesome looking under the 68 body. The details of each individual car are thrilling to me, and I can't wait for my project to begin.
The Greder #51 project body/frame pre mod mockup...into action as soon as the 68 is finished...
And in her heyday...

Thanks Widebody. I don't know how long it will be before I can do anything about it, but I'm itchin' to get back on track. If anyone needs a hired gun before I can afford my own ride, e-mail me and I'll put together a resumé...
edit - Not really joking around here.

Not true, there were technically three OC cars that were campaigned for 68. There was the original 67 L-88 Corvette that Tony D ran in 67 (I will try to find a picture of it) and then Thompson ran the 67 in 68 in bp until his 68 car was ready, then a 68 L-88 car, and another 68 that was made from parts. The above car was never a 67 but rather always a 68. I am not sure if this car was the L88 or not but it was the first of the OC Shark Cars.

Thanks fo the clarification, its the build up from parts that I was concerned with, a really interesting deal. Reading the DeLorenzo recollections in the Vintage Motorsport article this year, he stated the following in regards to preparing for4 the 24 hour races..."The corvettes got new frames, something for every 24 hour race or after a heavy hit, windsheild frames rewelded, FIA bodywork added..." ect.
Amazing to think of how many frames they may have used!

Here is the first race for the one of the first L88s at Wilmont Hills in WI.
Here is a picture of the above car (two posts ago) before OC sponsorship. Tony D on his way to a June sprints victory in 68.

this is the car (built from parts taken off the GM line in 1968) that sold for $610K...the 67 L-88 car was restored as a street car and was recently bid to (I think) 1million plus or maybe 2 million at Monterey.....
