Cool! My first 1000+ view thread! Not bad consedering Im a C4 owner although I used to own a 79.
On a serious note, its nice to hear all your different opinions and ideas about this
keep it up!
Look, truth is "retro" as a design theme is a dead end proposition. After the life cycle of the vehicle is over then what? Retro of the generation following the one you just copied? Can't wait to see the next Mustang 2.
I'm interested to see how Ford is going to "update" the mustang, VW update the Beetle, and Chrysler move on from the Cruiser.
Retro is a NOW design theme which shows lack of forward thinking.

And I'd buy one in a heartbeat anyway! Awesome look!
No dissrespect but the Corvette is the GM performance car. The benchmark for Corvette is the most performance for the dollar. That means light materials and aerodynamic body cues. If the Corvette strayed from the performance market it would no longer be a Corvette
And less than 300 horsepower is performance? Hell, 250 for that fact and all the way down to how little horsepower?? Think again, Corvette has not ALWAYS been performance. Or am I misinformed?
If GM had stayed within the C3 style as the Corvette evolved, it would probably look like the Viper today.
In terms of retro though, I have to say I think a retro C2 would be better than a retro C3. The C3 has inspired so many other vehicles, it has the unique property of looking both classic and modern at the same time, which would make a retro version nothing but ugly. A retro C2 leaves more room for modernization.
I wonder what the numbers would be if one were to compare the new Corvette body style to the Stingray body style in a wind tunnel. The designs go from concept to wind tunnel and are modified based on that same wind tunnel. Something tells me our beloved Stingray body style does not have a lot going for it in the aerodynamic department. But it sure looks killer to me.

Not misinformed - just forgetting the times. Corvette has always been performance in a production car. That meant GM had to comply with emissions requirements, and it took all the car manufacturers how to produce high HP cleanly. What US car had better performance than the Corvette in any given year? Sure, some foreign exotics sold in the US had more HP and met emissions laws, but consider the cost. Corvette has always been about affordible performance.

comparing Hp numbers from cars that did not have the technology to beat their emissions is not realistic. they were not fast by todays standards but they were fast compared to the other crap on the market at the time. i'm also pretty sure in that era the exotics from italy and germany would have been choked to death by our smog laws if they would have been mass produced and sold to the working class.
OK, my bad. You said performance, and 185 horsepower ain't performance, I don't give a hoot what car it's in. And I believe you guys said it, all the US cars were down on power. Don't direct your lack of horsepower anger on me for pointing it out.
