I think (and this is just my personal opinion) that GM should produce a retro corvette similar to what ford has done with the mustang and what dodge has done with the new challenger. I mean ho does not find a C3 vette beautiful. Im sure it would have a massive success. The originals will always be the originals but it would probrably sell a lot.
If I were GM, I would continue to produce the new vette that will sell for 100K and more but also produce a retro Corvette greatly resembling C3 vettes that would be in the mustang/challenger price range.
Anyways this is just a crazy idea from a crazy Canadian lol.
Just like to know what you C3 owners think of this.
And happy holidays to all
I would personally love to see this, however I think GM has gone a different way than Ford and Dodge, by introducing style cues from different generations. The c3 fenders are my favorite part of the car which really gave it it's shape and I would love to see it integrated into a new vette. Who know's what time will tell
I'm not a fan of producing retro cars. It just tells me that there is very little talent in the design departments of the big three. Either that or there is so much red tape involved with producing a new car, that they all end up looking like Accords. The '09 Camaro is going to be a retro design although I think it is different enough from the '67 -'69. The new Challenger looks like the took the tooling from a '70 and worked it a little to fit a new chassis. I wouldn't think it would be that difficult to build a new car that looks good.
I agree, I would buy a new retro vette, but I'm just not interested in what they are building now. They seem to be hung up on top end performance rather than styling. Who can or needs to go 175 mph? There has to be a better balance. There is obviously an interest in these as Ford and Dodge are selling tons of these. They appeal to older generations who reminisce and newer generations to whom these designs appear new.

100% agree. GM seems to concentrate all on performance with the new vettes but with todays traffic and roads ho really is going to drive 175mph. Ive always loved vettes from C1 to C5 since I was a kid (no offence but I personaly hate the new headlights ont the C6). Performance is great but the number one thing that always attracted me to the Corvette is the look!
chevy's retro vehicle comparable to mustangs and challengers is the new chevy camaro...they're all retros of muscle cars...the vette is more of a sports car. although i love the lines of a c3 too

Too bad the new Camaro looks more like a 'cuda than a Camaro. Nice looking car though.
Well if not a retro of an actual C3 vette, how about a retro of a C3 prototype that was never made.
Check out this link of this prototype that never was produced!

camaro is cool again? time to grow my mullet out and trade the house in for a trailer. i am not a fan of retro. i like the caddy CTS-V, G8, GTO, and C6. now if they brought back transam, they might be on to something there.

That's the '73 Aerovette, what was going to be the C4. It was a mid-engine that started out with a small-block before getting a Wankel rotary. It went back to a V-8 in the late '70s. Love those bi-fold gullwing doors....

No dissrespect but the Corvette is the GM performance car. The benchmark for Corvette is the most performance for the dollar. That means light materials and aerodynamic body cues. If the Corvette strayed from the performance market it would no longer be a Corvette

If they produced a retro corvette it wouldn't necessarily need to be a "corvette". Calling it a shark would be acceptable. Personally, I like the idea. I can't stand when someone looks at my car and says something to the effect of "I like it. I'm looking at getting a 6... camaro." I DO NOT DRIVE A CAMARO. Something needs to spark some interest in the coolest cars ever made: C3 CORVETTES. This could accomplish that.
I don't mind retro and I do like the old names. I was a little disappointed in the new GTO as I think it needs something to break it out from the rest of the round bodies. Still, the GTO is a nice quick car.
I see some retro of the C3 in the C6 now. Take a look at some of the sharp line and hard edges. The profile of the fender upper edge appears C3 to me.
Anyone else see this or am I the only one with delusion
Well the new challenger are already being talked about on other forums and the prices seem to be are gonna be closer to a c6 like 50g or more so they wont sell as the mustang has! The new camaro to me looks like a smiley faced honda or toyota bastard child??
there is talk already of gm producing a smiley faced Chevelle as well.
If gm is gonna sell the camaro it better be a base car around 15g with tons of options taking it up to the 50-60 range (like the 67-69 did) or i feel it will tank!
I would like to see more styleing with the new cars body wise they all seem to follow the new blocky angular crap no style what so ever? i dont care if it gets .5 miles better per gallon because it looks like that i prefer style!

I was just talking about this with my neighbor last week!
Look, to the big 3, it's about selling cars. Ford really did a good job with the Mustang and they've sold many of them. GM could do that with the Vette/Stringray and probably sell a ton of them. Let's face it, modern technology and design coupled with the beauty and styling of a C3! I'd like to at least see what they could come up with. Hey, that's a new idea, isn't it!
If you're into retro (and being 51, I am) I uncomfortably think GM missed the mark.
I had a '67 Camaro I really liked. I know the new Camaro is supposed to be loosely based on a '69, but.......when you look at a new mustang, you instantly think mustang, same way with the redone challenger.
When I look at this
all I think is....WTF?!?
IF.....if GM is going to get on the retro bandwagon it needs to look a little more like the classic they're copying. Or just call it something totally different. This car has a lot of design elements I like, but at first glance you just don't think Camaro instantly.
Just my $.02, nothing more.

If the design folks could just be reined in a little. God knows what it'd look like when it came out of the design shop. Either let it look like a C-3 or call it something totally different.
