How much of the dash? I would think you would want to clean up/paint all the panels, the gauge bezel, etc. You could re-dye the upper dash pad and driver's dash panel 'in place' if you don't want to drop the steering column, etc. But, do you know that the tach and speedo cables are in good shape?
If you're going that far, disassemble the dash, check the wiring, grounds, replace all the bulbs, as well as a general cleaning. I'd hate to think of all the dust and dirt that will be trapped back there while the car is being worked on
I want to gut the whole thing, dash, steering column and all, but the shop doesnt want to, or think its necessary. Its will cost me alot more time and $$$$..
But I want the car right. All the wires are bieng cleaned and or replaced. Only thing left in the interior is the gauges and dash.
Just clean them up...? I'm probably gonna sell it when I'm done, I dont know as of yet. Either way, for me or for whoever gets it, I want it done right. I guess you could always pull the dash later.
I wanna be done with it though, as if that EVER happens!!!!:

They likely don't want to pull the dash because, while it is easy to disassemble, it is very tedious to reinstall the whole assembly. You need to loosen the column and lower it for ease of dash removal.
I have had my dash apart three times and I can tell you it is just about the least favorite of my past projects.......

If your going that far into it, do it right. It's a issue of rust finding/repairing. I assume rotisorie means leaving the frame on. what, you figure 800 more to pull the dash?
Yeah, rotissere is the wrong word. I'm used to lookin at all the other cars in the shop , :o
My bod is on a moveable "cart", and the chassis was all redone, engine built, transmission, PS rehabbed, etc. The body is in primer and ready to paint, and the interior is gutted except for the dash....From what Ive been told,
Dash is a real PITA with all the vacuum issues....I'm unsure whether or not it is NECESSARY , in order to get top $$$, to remove the dash....
Plus, I want the car done...I wanna at least drive it a bit this summer...or sell it....Depends if the price is right...
IMO, 68's are gonna be a high dollar car in 2-5 yrs....

Absolutely. You SEE the dash when you drive the car, you REALLY want it to look and work at least as well as the day the car was originally delivered to its FIRST owner.
The dash is not a big thing to remove without the interior or the windshield in the way.You say the interior is out already.the windshield has to come out to get to the pillars .So your most of the way there anyhow.
Think about how much time and what a pita it would be to locate a bad wire or vacuum line when it is all re-assembled.If the shop is giving you a hard time for the sake of a few hours labor ,I would wonder what else they are doing quickly instead of correctly .
Just my 2 cents worth.
IMO, if you're not going to keep the Vette, then going through the dash, assuming it's in good condition, would not be worth the cost. You're not going to get your money out of the car anyway so why waste more?

How about for confidence in the fact you are selling a good car .How can you assume any condition with out knowing.
How would you feel about buying a car with potential electrical problems (shorts, fire, ect) or vacuum problems (leaks) because the previous owner cut corners .
Your sort of attitude SUCKS

The windsheild is still in....Dash is only a few hrs labor...? Looks like a LOT more than that....I've never done one, but it doesnt appear to be a simple task.
Quick vs correct...I'm hoping that the two are one in the same in this case....

Whay are you guys SO convinced that I'm upside down on the car....?
I did alot of the proep work myself-dis-assembled the interior, stripped the paint, disconnected the body from the frame, etc....
I'll have less than $30k in the car....Selling immediately, I'm looking at 40-60 or I wont sell.....If I keep it for a few yrs, the price goes up....
Like I said, IMO, 68s are gonna be worth top $$$ in 2-5 yrs...
