Why doesn't insurance cover that? Unless they stated it wasn't covered it should. Or if it was sitting in your driveway see if homeowners would cover it.
Most auto insurance policies cover the car only. Sometimes it will cover personal items that you are transporting (after deductibles). If you add something of particular value to the car, you have to let the insurance company know and they will add a 'rider' to your policy and increase the premium accordingly [usually not very much].
Think about it: anyone can CLAIM someone stole valuable stuff out of their car to swindle the insurance company. And that scam was done regularly until the insurance companies changed the 'rules'. It's the same with homeowner's insurance. If you have a valuable painting in your home, you'd better have it written into your coverage....or it won't be replaced when you have a fire/flood/whatever.

Pretty close, anything not bolted down in your car may be covered by your homeowners insurance. Some carriers restrict electronics etc. In regards to the valuable painting, the insurance would cover it, but only up to a certain limit if it is not scheduled.............LT
Hmmm let me see. Oh yeah normally the truck would be locked in the garage but because my 75 vette is on one side and the frame and rear clip are on the other there was no room for the truck.
Didn't know that as a forum member I could not share an incident with my fellow members regardless of whether or not it is related to my C3
You have to overlook him.....he's one of the ***** I have set on "ignore" on this forum.
Excellent idea , I have three cameras just incase some fool thinks he can sneak up on one and clip the wire ..... he/she will be recorded by the other two . They are motion detected as well .
Guy broke into my Honda two years ago. Radio stolen and not recovered. Police discovered the break-in and knocked at my door at 3 AM. They actually caught the guy due to an observant neighbor dressing to go to early work. Guy got 7 years in the Alabama prison system...all for a 200 dollar radio. Go figure! And he has to pay me restitution when he gets out through the courts. Go Bama!!!
My understanding was that if it was bolted to the car you could get paid from the insurnace, for example a radar detector wouldn't be covered. Hmmmmmmmmmm... Do you have home owners or apartment insurance? If so call your insurance see if they'll cover it.

Sadly I feel your pain and for some years I gave up on enhancing the stock stuff but finally came to appreciate insurance companies. I spend a lot more time in the details of the policy and running stuff by them well in advance of learning the hard way....since I learned the hard way too many times. It's like that diamond on your wife's hand....wait until you see how much you get for that if it's stolen or lost. It really doesn't cost much more to upgrade on insurance and since they have replaced three motorcycles, two cars, and some stereo stuff I'm confident I'm on the upside for life.
PS - I avoided using the any C3 related comments in my posting as well.

If it was in the garage you may have a home owners claim if the auto policy doesn't cover it but almost every policy requires notification of those items....and things like bling bling rims or fancy crate motors, etc.

The best way to prove that you actually had it installed in the vehicle before it was stolen, is to take photos with date stamps on them.
I also take walk thru videos of the contents of our home & store them in a safe place if we go on extended holidays. That way, if there is something that you have forgotten to list with the insurance company, at least you have proof that you owned it. ( in the event of a robbery)
I am sorry. My vette, well, I dont leave her unattended. I make the grocery cart dude sit with her....
I had an 84 Toyota Celica GTS that was broken into 3 times for stereo equipment.
Since then (10 yrs and a couple kids) I gave up on amps, bass tubes, and, in general, the fun stuff. I know how you feel though. One time someone almost got my car in Boston..left a dent puller in the ignition. I was soooo mad and violated. Atleast you have your car. I thought electric current might be a good deterrent
That little blinking red LED for the alarm is a great deterrent. I usually have a pretty good stereo in at least one of my cars, and I've never had one bothered even when other cars in the lot were broken in to.
