I am looking for my first corvette and i have found one that i like but the engine stamp does not look like the others i have seen. It looks like the numbers on the right change style from the first 06 to the second 06. Does anyone know if this looks correct? The car is a 71 coupe with a 350. The vin does match. Thanks!

I have a 71 BB coupe. I don't have my book here but check the 3 letter code on the right of the stamp that should coinside with the correct engine and Hp for the year. I can't see the photos you posted. I will get back this evening if you still need help with this
Good luck and welcome to the family. 71's are a nice car.
The build date on this pad is June 6th.....is that before the build date of your car? What is the casting date on the block? Does that number (cast date) fall in place w/ the build date? As far as the stamp. I see the difference in the number 6, but I just don't know enough here. I do know that GM had 2 distinct styles of number "2" which were sometimes used together on some parts, such as the "7028219" carb for a 68.here the number 2's are different on every original one I have see. The pad looks ok........what's the history?
it is a 3 owner car in the PA. It looks very nice in the pictures but i am in tennessee and i cannot go to see it. I need an inspection service or someone to go and make sure it is a sound car. The owner tells me the car is all original with new interior and 8 out of 10 on the paint. the trim tag matches the colors. I think the car is good but I am just worried about the numbers on the stamp. Do you think 20,000 is reasonable for this car? thanks

The zeros are different but I would say it is OK if it checks out.

20 sounds like a lot for a SB coupe, but we have essentially zero information on the car. Lots and lots more info, detail, pics etc needed to make a guess.
for what it's worth the engine pad on my '71 has a mix of different fonts (the one above different 6's, in my case different 3's). Like the one above mine also uses a combination of zero's and O's for zero.
please go look at the car, do not buy sight unseen. You may get lucky..but remember that pictures can be very deceiving. It's very big gamble to take.
I think it looks ok, I've seen much worse and even original cars with many different fonts. Depends on how much the stamper had to drink the night before.
But to recurgitate what the others said, DO NOT BUY SIGHT UNSEEN. Either spend the time and money to go do it yourself or send someone qualified and recommended. Also, get many more pics before buying. Don't rush because there are many out there. If this one goes before you have all your info, that's ok. There will be more. Corvette lust can turn into Corvette tears and an expensive lesson.
Some people get lucky buying sight unseen and some have not. I think I read on this forum that someone bought sight unseen and when he got it, later to find out the birdcage was really in BAD shape. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words , but in buying a vette, it's not. Tony

So, you just HAVE to buy a car sight unseen?
This would be my first vette so i am not really sure what to ask and how to verify. what i know so far is the car is Bridgehampton blue with black vinyl. 4 spd trans. matching numbers and trim tag correct. everything works except radio. interior is excellent and engine compartment looks mostly clean. Here is the best picture of the engine i have. I have not gotten all the pictures that I need yet. After all the responses, sounds like I need to find someone to go and look at the car. Is the best plan to just try to find someone on the forum to go and look or is there a service that can make evaluations. Thanks
does any of the wiring look like it has been modified?
Spark plug wires on run incorrectly. Should come up from below through V-Shields against the motor. Looks like they are almost laying on the exhaust. Unfortunately a common problem. Besides the dreaded fuel filter in the rubber line issue it doesn't look too too bad but it's real hard to tell from only one picture and view.

Thanks for the opinions. I will try to get some better pics. I am just not sure what to look for. I need to find someone in PA so go and evaluate the car for me. Any suggestions?
You should closely look at the fiberglass for signs of bubba glass repairs. For example, my 70 looked very good when I bought it in 1992. Since then the first suspicious signs were cracks that started to appear in the paint, and now I can see that ts' had front and rear collision damage. The fiberglass repair looks just awful from underneath. I didn't really notice until I removed the front and rear bumpers. The front bumper was not attached on one end (far end that bolts through the fiberglass) since I think the nose of the car has been bonded back on slightly crooked. Also in some places it appears that a thin layer of bondo was overlaid over the previous paint, then primer was sprayed over all the previous paint and then a color coat. I could be looking at some serious dollars to have the fiberglass repaired professionally.
