Default Removing the engine vs damage

I'm interested to know how often you have removed the engine and damaged the car / chipped the paint?

I have had mine out 3 times with no damage to anything. I even leave the hood on.

Slowly and carefully!!! Removed mine for the restore..no chips or damage. Re-installed the same way! I did have my hood off...Muddy

Use lots of protective pads (blankets?), etc. on the areas likely to get hit. Maybe even put some corrugated cardboard on top of the pads; a swinging engine can really do some damage if it gets out of control. Use some kind of "tilt" adjuster gizmo on the lift so that you can easily tilt the engine as you need [experienced mechanics know how they want it when they start and don't really need one].

Use a good long arm cherry picker and short chains on a tilt plate and take your time, cover the fenders with moving blanket. Go Slow and you should have no problem at all, there should be NO reason for the engine to be swinging. I have done several and never a problem

Sixfooter and I pulled my motor with trans attached. We took the hood off and had no problem. As He said use some blankets and take your time. We hooked up the hoist from the side of the car and pulled the motor and trans out. If you want some pics let me know.

Just like Tecdiverfl: protect well, I removed hood, radiator, LF tire, captured, tilted, and removed with trans mounted. Disconnected trans once cleared from body.

I've read that some dudes leave rad in but mine's being replaced with a new Dewitts. My picker is old Lakewood unit from the early '80s so boom is fixed. Harbor Freight units are adjustable boom length, affordable, and fold up when not used.
