Blckslvr79 and Randommj have been kind enough to give you the best advice here otherwise to keep a wife and Mustang ans sell two C3's - I think professional advice may be the way to go eh!!
A month ago when I decided to get another car, a C6 was my first thought. The price talked me out of it and into a C5. Do you just have your heart set on a C6? Keeping one C3 and picking up a good used C5 is a good alternative and moving to a C6 as their prices drop.
I won't give up my C3 but I have no regrets at all getting the C5 for a DD. If you do decide to get rid of them and go for the C6 atleast you know for the late year models in a C3, you can pick one up when you are ready for it again at a good price.
Maybe I missed it, but what you described doesn't sound like there's much money coming back. You said they were matching numbers, but then the first one was going to be all modified? OK... modifed '80, not much there... the second doesnt sound like much at all there...
Selling these 2 cars = a C6?
Sell both cars and buy a nice completed '69-'72 convertible. The extra financing will be considerably less and you will be much happier.
By the way, not only do I understand having a wife with a '60s Mustang, I also appreciate the concept of having a C5 driver while using the other cars for serious fun:
You've gotten some good advice here. Personally, I would make one saleable 80 out of the 2 you have without spending any more $$ and sell one. You may not make much from the modified 383, so keep it!
Then go find yourself a decent C5 or C6. I have found, like others on here, that it's great to have one older Vette (72LS5) and one newer one (01 Vert). It's the best of both worlds.
I have also at times thought of selling both of mine and getting a C6. But I now know I would miss the 72. Plus, I would take a hit on depreciation again with the newer C6.
I also recommend that you keep your wife and her Mustang,
Rickman
P.S. That reminds me of a funny story. I have a friend who is on his third marriage. When someone brings up the subject of marriage, he pleads with them to "just find someone you hate and buy them a house!"
Thanks for all the great advice (keeping the wife). The vettes will have to wait. I'm a responder and work is sending me to the Gulf in advance of Hurricane Gustov. Depending on how bad it gets, not sure when I'm getting back. At least I'll make some overtime. Hope if any of you Guys are in the Gulf region, you are not hit, but if it heads your way, get out! I think I'll look for a used c5 or c6 when I get back. I'm leaning towards an automatic, so that's one of the reasons I like the C6 - paddle shift. If I keep my payments down, then I won't have to sell my white C3.
