Default Ignorance needs assistance...

OK, I'm removing the wiper motor/transmission assembly. The mechanical connections are straight-forward... How do I disconnect the two wires on the front end of the pump assembly [in order to pull off the plastic cover]? I don't want to just "yank" them on 37-year-old hardware/wiring..... A little knowledge, please!!

You should be able to remove them by pulling on them (easily). You may want to spray some WD40 on them and let it penetrate for a while (won't need alot). Then just gently pull on them while wiggling them back and forth as you pull.

There are two types I've delt with. One are what I call the 'pin' type where the wire has a metal end that pushes into a circular contact. The other is the normal male/female slide connector that may or may not be in the same connector housing.

In either case, wiggling the connector back and forth while gently pulling out should work.

Good luck!

I reach into the plastic cover and grab the end of the metal pin connector with a needle nose pliars. If you pull on just the wire, sometimes the wire comes out but the pin stays. I've found you only do that once.

Alan

Well, you guys were right...they are pin-type connectors. Except that I don't think they have EVER been removed since original build. It took a lot of work to get them to come free [and not crack that plastic POS on the outside of the wiper pump]. But, I got it. Thanks for the info!
