question on heat riser valve

Default question on heat riser valve
I want to wire up the heat riser valve to check. Does the small lever go up or down to open it up. I think down but want to make sure.

Hi G74,
The arm and weight are up when the engine is cold. The coil spring pulls the arm down and opens the heat riser valve as the engine heats up.
