Haven't seen the car, just was interested in it on Craig's. I asked for the VIN and it shows to be a conver't when it sure looks like a coupe. He says that the tag on the A pillar is the same as the title. I'm not moving on it, just wondered if the factory ever got this wrong. I'd never heard of it.
Thanks for the replies.
I remember something similar several years ago. The car was legit, it was a factory mistake. The owner had lots of documentation to show that the error had been there since day one.
I have spotted four 1968 Corvettes with differing vins, a convert with a coupe vin that spent a lot of time on ebay, a mako shark replica coupe with a vert vin, a convert with a 74 coupe body and another vert with a coupe body. All were products of creative parts usage when the original car was modified.
I would bet for a car like a 71 that it was modified, as verts were rare. For 68's coupe vins are rare comparatively, so convertible vin plates looking for new homes generally found coupes. I have seen some with no vin tags any more!!!
