Default Bye Until April

It was time today for the "long" drive to commercial winter storage. Ambient temp was ~28*F this morning. (It is very evident that my heat riser is clamped open.) Driving season 2008 was enjoyable but it passed so quickly. So another year gone.

As an aside, I put on about 1,200 miles this year: the Corvette is just a hobby. I had some trepidations driving a 1974 after enjoying a 1967 coupe from 2003-2007. But you know these much-maligned rubber bumper cars are very nice drivers. Well-mannered and dependable when some quirks (I don't want to talk about heater cores!) are sorted out. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to 2009 after the annual stressful ritual called the Canadian winter is finished.

September pic of new Willcox seat covers.

Today.

I feel for you northern climate guys. Winterizing a Vette in my part of Texas consists of putting on the t-tops. Of course some of the guys further south are just now taking their t-tops off.

I guess forum traffic will start picking up again now that so many cars are heading into storage.

Saw a snowbird heading south the other day pulling a C4 on a trailer behind his motor-home. Now that's the correct way to put a Vette into winter storage! We should all be so lucky.

Hi Paul,
I'm sorry you have to put that nice car away.
I've enjoyed seeing your projects and also pictures of some of the places you went in those 1200 miles.
I hope you have a few car projects you can do without the car close at hand this winter.
Stay nice and warm.
Regards,
Alan

If they use salt down there forget it. The reason I put my Corvette away (I've been doing this for 20+ years) in late October is that it is pre-snow/ice/salt. I take it out in late April because it rains have washed away the winter residual salt. I have never owned a Corvette with frame rot. Just a thought.

they use salt heavily, i mean the snow disappears, and the ground is like a salt farm, all over the place

Alan,
I have very much appreciated your kind comments during 2008. When the 1974 arrived from TN in April I had some specific projects to do. They were obvious but generally superficial as the car was almost exactly as described by the seller. The heater core burst (yes, it literally blew) and was a unexpected "gift" but I took care of it and I can't blame the seller as these things are sometimes black/white: they can give no notice.

This car is now a bit like my 1967. Little more to do. A few stone chips in the paint but what the heck. When I had my 1967 painted (~$9,000) I hesitated to drive it. And of course subsequently sold it last summer because of the money tied up and no use or enjoyment. I won't drive a 10/10 paint car again.

This is pre-paint when I had a lot of fun with the 1967.

Well, here it's a little more than putting the t-tops on . If you look at the pics carefully, that snow bank is higher than the Corvette's roof! Use the lamp post as a reference.
