Lot 347 on the 14th is a 78 Indy Pace Car described as follows:

An original 1978 Silver Anniversary Indy 500 pace car edition with only 16 original miles. All documentation and original owner's manual included. This 220hp V8 4-barrel car has been in storage for 30 years.

If you look at the pics it appears to be an L48 not an L82? I thought only the L82 had 220 HP?

Why do you say it looks like a L-48?

Funny how it has been in storage for 30 years and waits until the economy is in the crapper to pull it out and try to sell.

In this economy I think I would be going the Mecum route. The big bucks is still out there for the top end stuff but the rest may take a hit.
It will be interesting to see what happens.

They offered 2 motors that year the L48 and L82. The L82 was 220 hp. This particular car has no L82 emblem on the hood, 1dt clue. It has a single snorkel air cleaned, the L82 is a dual snorkel, 2nd clue. It has blue valve covers, a L82 has black finned valve covers, 3rd clue.

So it is obviously a L48 which did not have 220hp, I thik it was 180 or 190 if I am correct. It is probably an oversight or someone who does not know that made the listing.

Your correct. I thought BJ people to check this kind of stuff out.

What is with all the named cars? Snake Killer, Shriner, Purple this and that, is this just make a 89 purple C-4 sound better?

I believe they are from the GM Heritage collection that GM is auctioning off. These are cars that were never titled and I believe have no VIN.

Lots of cool Vettes in the Heritage collection. Most of them aren't even listed yet as GM just added them:
First ZR-1 Serial no# 00001
Snake Skinner
ZL1 engine stuff
The Tiger Shark, I was driving it around on Saturday, and it's awesome.
Tons of Pace Cars
Etc. etc.
