I need to remove my rear console on my 70. After removing the 4 screws in the front the back end does not budge. What holds it in place?

There is a screw on the back side of the slanted bulkhead if you remove the box over the jack and look in the general direction, you will see it. Good luck getting it out and even more getting it back in. Save yourself a lot of grief and remove the entire box and trim assembly.

I believe on my '73 it is a stud that sticks through the bulkhead into the storage compartment. You should be able to reach in there between the bulkhead and center compartment and get to the nut with an open end wrench. 7/16 or 3/8 if I remember correctly.

Tedious but doable... just be patient.

Good luck... GUSTO

When you reassemble it, cut the head off the bolt and round it over to make a bullet-nosed stud. Thread it into the "nut" in the rear console and put another nut on the inside to lock it down. Then all you have to do is fit the new 'stud' into the access hole in the bulkhead, push the console down into place, and put in the other screws. You'll never have to fight that #@$&&^% bolt again.

As I said, look in the general direction................ 7T1VETTE is right, It's better to put a stud in the console first. Here's another trick too. Instead of a regular nut, use a coupling nut, easier to keep a hold of. This also works great for the two pesky studs on the bottom of the gauge bezel. My glove box was all shot, so I had to remove the entire storage compartment anyway, so that bolt was not a problem. Otherwise I think you would need arms made of rubber. Sorry, that was just a little early morning humor........
