Mine works, once I swpped some parts! Mine was bubba'd at some point and the trip meter hole was covered in electrical tape. Seemed like alot of effort, rip open the dash and cover the hole with tape and REMOVE the mechanism.
On a '78 ya just push, no extra effort having to spin mine!!
mine works but would not reset until i realized that the **** was missing and i could not grip the shaft. gently grabbed it with a set of pliers and pushed up and turned and it reset. any body know where to get a **** for a 68?
My 78 speedo works and my GPS and the speed signs (that tell you your speed) say it's dead on. But my Trip OD is off my 20% when going on a 200 mile trip per my GPS and Google the Trip OD reads 157.
Well it resets OK and moves when the car moves.

Does your speedometer give the same readings as your GPS? If you do Google directions for your 200 mile trip, how far does that say the trip is?
[QUOTE=Binnie77;1571438061]Here are a couple of pictures of what the reset mechanism looks like and how it works. When the cable is pushed in it forces that brass gear away from the drive gear and at the same time engages the gear on the end of the reset cable. You need to turn the cable clockwise to reset the trip. I have had a few of these speedometers apart and the reason that some trips do not work is that the little brass gear gets dirty on the shaft and the spring is not strong enough to push the gear back to mesh with the main drive gear. Also if the reset cable does not fully release, the gear will not drop back to mesh with the main drive gear. If the main odometer is working and your trip is not then you have one of the problems I have mentioned above. I have never seen any of the trip gears stripped, it has always been a cable problem or a barss gear that no longer slides properly
Binnie: Great info ! My speedometer worked and the trip odometer would reset to zero, but would not turn when driving. Apparently it was not working because the reset cable was not fully releasing. I pulled/ pushed on the reset mechanism as you suggested and it then engaged with the main drive gear. It now works perfectly ! Thanks !
