Default New Clock

Well, bought a new quartz clock to replace the non working one. Problem will be asthetics. All the other gauges look old. Will NCRS deduct points for this?

If asthetics is the only issue, why not buy the other new gauges to match?....then the NCRS will see them as "perfectly restored".

Dar:

NCRS will doc you on the quartz clock. I'm not sure what the deduction is, you might try to contact a judge in your year or maybe post a question on their board and ask.

They will listen for the ticking noise the quartz will not have.

For anyone who cares....
The appearance of the clock is part of the Interior judging; 10 points divided between all five gauges in the cluster. BUT the way the clock works is part of Operations.
A quartz movement is a deduct... 25 points. OUCH!!!!!
Regards,
Alan

I went the other route...I replaced my quartz movement with a nos movement. When I first had my car judged I might have been given a break....they only deducted 12 pts for the quartz because the clock line item contains "Clock & reset function"....my reset worked.

I've never tried it, but you should be able to swap the face on the new clock to the face from the old one.

This will make them look the same installed.

Keep the old movement, they can be repaired. . . . for how long is another subject. Some will run for years, some will last a few months.

with some help from my forum buddy Dean ('75) the new quartz clock is in, but just like the old one, doesn't work. Actually it'll work for a few minutes and then quit. good news is I shouldn't lose any NCRS points with a non-working quartz that doesn't tick tock.

You will lose points for the non working part anyway.

Dan, I've got good news, I disassembled your old clock and lubed it with a little WD40 and it is working good.

Hey, those "non-working" clocks are exactly right twice a day! Working clocks are never exactly right.

Hey Dean, the radio is fantastic. Got it set up last night and my neighbor joined for a cruise. Using your Mirror Glaze, he commented all gauges look brand new. As far as the new quartz clock, it works for maybe one minute and stops. So, the old clock...does it tick? You busy next weekend?

No plans next weekend. I'm going to hook up your old clock to a battery and let it run all week to make sure it's ok.

75,

You might take a jewelers file and dress down the points on the electro magnet. They get burnt and will reduce the throw on the winding arm.

Also, clocks can be adjusted by moving the time back 12 hours to slow and forward 12 hours to speed up.

Inside the clock is an adjustment lever on the spring that you can move if you have the clock apart. This is the fastest way to make a correction.

Be very careful not to knock the main flywheel off too! They are real hard to get back on.
